Wanted to remind everyone to continue to call reps and senators daily. The staffer I spoke with today said call volume was down. Need to keep the pressure on please.

Called all of mine and the AG. Had to leave a message for all of them. I also sent all of them emails. My messages and emails will not be mistaken for valentines.

Sounds perfect to me, Vickie. Good they'll not be mistaken ❣️

5calls makes calling easy. They list the issues. There are 24 currently. Provide a script with actions you would like the person to take, and phone numbers for both the local offices and Washington office of all congressmen as well as attorney generals. I call twice a day six days a week.

Perhaps you've mentioned it in a previous email, but there is a very important race happening in Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Supreme Court - Susan Crawford. Wisconsin is a tipping point state, and the Supreme Court there has significant power over redistricting, creating multiple situations where Democrats won the popular vote but received far fewer representatives. I believe the election is in early April.

I'm writing postcards for the Susan Crawford race. There are lots of options:

* Field Team 6 (www.fieldteam6.org) has a campaign to register new WI voters in advance of the Supreme Court race. They target nonvoters whom they believe will register as a Democrat or as a progressive leaning Independent and often mention progressive issues in therir scripts.

FYI, FT6 also has postcard campaigns in both FL-01 and FL-06 (the other FL special election for a House race). All three elections will be held April 1, but the voter registration deadline in FL is March 3rd, so the deadline to mail the postcards is much sooner (Feb 24). WI, on the other hand has Election Day registration (yay!!), so the mail deadline is much later. But as always, the preference is to mail as you go, so that the newly registered voters are ready to vote as soon as early voting starts.

* Postcards to Voters (www.postcardstovoters.org) - aka Tony the Democrat - has an excellent record in elections NOT held in November - Judicial elections, special elections, run-off elections, etc. Their big push right now is the Susan Crawford WI Supreme Court race. Tony targets Democratic voters and asks that you only take as many addresses as you can handle in the next three days, then go back for more. There is a process to become a new volunteer but experienced volunteers can get postcards any time there is a campaign.

* Activate America (www.activateamerica.vote) tends to target infrequent and recently registered voters. Their campaigns are "mail as you go" but it is okay to spread them out so long as all are mailed by March 20th at the latest. You do not need to set up a account from Activate America; you fill out a Google form and the script and the names and addresses are emailed to you - usually within the next few minutes.

* Reclaim Our Vote is a program of the Center for Common Ground (www.centerforcommonground.org/reclaim-our-vote) and focuses on BIPOC voters. Their campaign for the WI Supreme Court race is in conjunction with WI Souls to the Polls. There is a process to become a ROV volunteer which includes a brief online training. In addition, you have to use one of the ROV postcard designs and will need to print a label with specific voting information specific to the county/city of the voter. ROV asks that postcards be mailed between March 1 - March 11.

Hey friends. I’m supposed to be on vacation calming my nervous system and trying to change my anxiety/terror. I have had to take a break. A big long one. But of course I peeked today because I could t help it. Michael Moore posted a kick- a— newsletter. For some reason it really helped me. He was straight shooting about what’s going down but he predicted that our ferocious opposition would eventually take down the bad guys. He was fiery and it helped me feel empowered. Not despairing. It’s today’s. Feb 14. A great read. He’s on substack of course.

I read it to. It was great. Any chance you can post a link here? Before you go back to your vacation?☺️

My newly elected Democratic Rep, Herb Conaway, is having his second Town Hall next Thursday. He also just sent out a newsletter describing all the actions he has taken in the past few weeks, including taking part in a demonstration in front of HHS by Democratic doctors (Dr. Conaway is a medical doctor). He also sent me a good letter in response to one of my Resistbot missives regarding Elon Musk and DOGE. I’ve been pretty impressed with his effort so far, but I need to get on the phone regarding this horrendous budget proposed by the Republicans. I just wish I thought the leadership in both the House and Senate were up to the fight.

There’s a serious purge going on today at the CDC: important epidemiology personnel fired. Please tell your representatives!

Have seen a suggestion that : having Pete Buttigieg doing a daily Dem press briefing on capital hill is an outstanding idea. Make him the Democratic Press Secretary and give him a staff. I primes you the media will cover him-- especially the ones that trump just booted out of the WH. A daily opposition press briefing will have all of the legit media in attendance( before they all are drummed out of the country) and the world will watch. Failure to do this is surrender. And the world will see that, as well." I have sent this along to David Hogg (Vice chair of DNC), Pete (not sure it gets to them) and the DNC which unfortunately seems to be paralyzed thus far and never replies to suggestions, but only sends me donation requests. Our Dem Senators and reps are handling more and more- so any other thoughts to light a fire under the alleged "leadership" to get moving??? How about Project 2028 to start shouting from the rooftops.

For those of us in states not joining in the Texas v. Becerra section 504 lawsuit, please contact your state’s Attorney General and ask that they submit an amicus brief in support of section 504

Jessica— just listened to historian Tad Stoermer on Instagram about why we are already in a constitutional crisis and what to do about it: in a word, resist. Every day in small or large ways at community level as national figures are failing us. Quite a convincing call to action that fits in nicely with your message. Take a look at his latest if you haven’t done so already.

Something smart and environmentally friendly that I saw at an Indvisible rally: rather than printing and passing out a bajillion flyers, activists had a page with a QR code for participants to scan. Voila! No flyer (that usually gets dropped or tossed), but a link to all the info you need. Seems like a small thing, but I found it so clever and useful!

Thank you! I wanted to let you know, I live in NY and called Hochul. I had to leave a message, but I called. I'll call every day.

(Schumer, Gillibrand, and Congressional Rep all got their daily blasts as well.)

Called all 3 of my Idaho congressional reps again today -- thanks to Jessica's oh-so-helpful scripts. 4 out of 5 working days this week, and I feel a little guilty about missing one!

Janie's avatar

Thank you from Washington state!

I call every day to our democratic senators but cannot get through. I am hoping that is because there are so many calls. So I email them. Is this an effective alternative.

Jess Craven's avatar

I mean, given that you have no choice. Yes, it is fine. Are their voicemail boxes is full?

Trina's avatar

Schiff never staffs his phones, at least so far, so for him email is the only choice. I have gotten position letters back from him. Don't know if that means anything.

With Padilla, if the line is busy, if I call back I usually get through to a staffer.

Neither one has scheduled a town hall. Why not at least do a virtual one?

Cheryl Johnson's avatar

Ann, are you only calling the Washington office or are you trying local offices too? I have been having better luck calling the local offices, although I try the DC office first.

Patricia Federle's avatar

I leave voicemail and call. Maga reps from my state and I finally got a live staffer at both offices today and they said call volume was down

Janice Z's avatar

They are probably lying to you about call volume.

Marcia's avatar

Try looking up local office numbers

KeepGoing's avatar

Any difference between their DC numbers and their local numbers?

Ann Schmitt's avatar

I would leave a voicemail if allowed. Neither senators or my congressmen allow for voicemails. I recently left a voicemail with speaker Johnson.

Ann Schmitt's avatar

I also have tried both Washington and local telephone numbers.

Tim Griffen, Arkansas Attorney General, has been quoted in an interview that the lawsuit is NOT to get rid of 504s but only to roll back to before gender dysphoria was allowed as a qualifying disability. Is he flat out lying? What is the disconnect?

Jess Craven's avatar

From what I’ve heard, he is flat out lying yes

Jessica, are you acquainted with Jess Piper, the original Dirt Road Democrat? She’s from Missouri, she’s a teacher. Ran for office and now uses her voice to let the world know what’s happening in her state.
