Please start focusing on what we can do to save Social Security, Medicaire and Medicaid.

I am making many phone calls-and will boycott -but I feel we must focus attention on the tragic consequences of those programs are gone!

I had a script in there today about just this, didn't I?

Expand full comment

Yes, you did-and I appreciate all you do to help us. I apologize I should have paid more attention. I feel selfish but I am so distraught at what is happening that right now I am focusing on Social Security. I feel like my head is on fire and I am overwhelmed-but not ungrateful of how you are trying to help.

Part of me thinks the loss of these programs is what would break the fever dream of Trumpism

Expand full comment

Agreed!! We need to scrape the bottom. We need these programs as well as Veteran’s benefits to halt. They NEED to feel the excruciating pain

Expand full comment

Yeah I mean I truly don't want the most in need to suffer, but I do wonder if widespread pain will snap some out of the maga trance and see that they were duped.

I know, I will be one of those people, but I truly think it is the only way. It will be blamed on Biden though

A little bit of fun Resistance. 💪Takes seconds !

1. Google Gulf of Mexico

2. “Gulf of America" is the top

3. Click on the three little dots to the right of it

4. Select "Send Feedback"

5. Click on "Gulf Of America"

6. Select "Inaccurate content"

7. Select "Incorrect" and type in "The correct name is “Gulf of Mexico"

Expand full comment

That was fun. I use Firefox as my browser and just switched to duckduckgo for my search engine. They still correctly say the correct name is “Gulf of Mexico. I had to open safari in order to 'google' and then your directions were easy peasy. Thank you. I've got to find an alternative to saying, "I'm going to google that".

Okay I’m so mad just went to google maps to do this and they turned off the “reviews” and the option to report an issue. I said screw them in using Waze from now on 🙄

Expand full comment

Google purchased Waze in 2013 😞 there are alternatives but none like Google maps and Waze

Expand full comment

That’s unfortunate.

I downloaded Mapquest again yesterday :) will report back on functionality, but the map is correct as of now

Expand full comment

you can still report the issue on Apple Maps though

Sadly, Apple Maps has changed it to. Which is what I mostly use on my phone. :(

Love this - thank you Jess!

3 suggestions to everyone:

🔨 Hammer Republican senators and reps on their social media accounts in the comments section. You don’t have to be their constituent AND other people will see it.

🔨 Same goes for companies.

💪 If there isn’t a protest near you, organize it. My friend and I decided to host one in our hometown and shared our poster on social media. We then decided to register it on Indivisible and they put it on their mobilize page. It was so easy and you don’t have to do much except tell people to show up with signs. Here’s a link so you can see:

100% agree! Also check out your local Indivisible Group, they have virtual & in-person meetups on everything how to get involved/engage/planned protests etc with the Resistance to 'Rump 2.0 now and his First Nazi Musk.

Youtube video of the "Save Civil Service Workers" rally on Tuesday, MSM BARELY covered this, but there is absolutely pissed off Reps., Labor Leaders, Workers from all over the Country right now that are shouting "F-Trump! "F-Musk!" in unison with us!

I would suggest that you state explicitly not to stream any movies on that day either since those rental charges for streaming services are hardly noticeable at the time of purchase.

My letter to Jeffries. Dear Rep. Jeffries,

I write as a former state legislator from Iowa (6 terms in both the majority and minority), as a member of the cabinet under both Governors Vilsack and Culver, and as a long-time lobbyist on children and family and environmental issues under Republican control in Iowa.

You and others have more insight than the consultants, including the ones who just ran the terrible congressional ads in Iowa against Nunn and Miller-Meeks. When addressing the 2017 tax legislation's impact, suggesting bipartisan corporate tax cuts was the wrong focus. Americans want to hear clear messages about tax breaks for everyday Americans; you can’t do that by dismissing Democratic leverage in budget talks.

Do not compromise until concrete policy commitments are placed in stone, with sign-off by all.

*Establish and broadcast non-negotiable positions:

*Comprehensive tax enforcement on billionaires and corporations must be included--not tax breaks

*Core social programs must be fully protected and funded--and just tell Americans Social Security and Medicare will be cut

*No unrelated policy riders designed to derail negotiations

*Deploy strategic legislation through targeted bill numbers to force public votes, compelling

Republicans to take recorded positions on vital issues through discharge petitions.

The public supports these positions. We need leadership that recognizes this and wields our strategic advantages.

Thank you so much for your work. Would you consider highlighting the State Supreme Court race in Wisconsin happening on April 1? The balance of our court depends on electing Susan Crawford. The future of Wisconsin might ride on this election since the judiciary seems to be one of our last strongholds. Thank you for considering!

There has been lots of talk about continuing to still find joy each day, supporting art, etc. The Philly band Low Cut Connie was a source of solace and joy all through the pandemic with weekly live casts. They're a small band, yet they got featured on one of Obama's playlists and played for Biden's inauguration. Knowing the way so many are hurting and afraid right now, band leader Adam Weiner has restarted these live casts every other Thursday and they really have been a wonderful 60 minute break for joy.

I was heartened to see the post that Low Cut Connie made today cancelling their upcoming show at the Kennedy Center in protest to what this administration has done to the board and organization as a whole. As a smaller band with not as much reach some headliners, this had to have been a painful financial decision to make. But I have big respect for Adam and the band standing up to fascism ruining the arts.

To quote their statement: "Our little rock n roll act stands for diversity, inclusion, and truth-telling. My extended Low Cut Connie community includes black, white, gay, straight, transgender, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, atheist, and immigrant individuals - all of whom are wonderful upstanding Americans. Many of these folks will be directly negatively affected by this Administration's policies and messaging."

I only wish our Republican legislators had the integrity and backbone that Adam has. Choosing principles over money in their pockets.

Jon Stewart interviewed Hakeem Jeffries last week. Stewart sounded way more intelligent than Jeffries. So disappointing to hear Jeffries' non-answers. (YouTube The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart)

Yeah he's been a terrible disappointment.

I wouldn’t use Axios as a trusted source for anything

Yeah, it's questionable whether it's true, as I said. But what's not questionable is that Jeffries is doing a terrible job.

Can you make an "event" on Facebook for the economic blackout on 2/28? I think it would be an easy way to pass the word.

It's not my event. Hopefully someone will.

Jessica: Along with phone calls, email mail, demonstrations and more, think how powerful it would be if tens of thousands of government workers, contract employees, recipients of services and more would record and post video statements on their cell phones and post them to social media sites, YouTube, web sites and any other communications channels. And if people who can afford it start a fund to buy commercial TV and air time to supersize the effort. I wrote about this today in my newsletter https://www.joerothstein.net/blog/real-impact-government-shutdown -- Joe Rothstein

100% agree! We NEED to use the Socials to get the Messaging Clear on The DOGE Invasion and Federal Civil Servants Workers. With shared stories and hopefully some viral for some shared stories! Big Tent Party needs to hammer this main issue, sure we can comment on 'Rump's Daily Dipshit EO zone flooding & 3am sociopathic xhitter posts, but it's VITAL to share what happens when a MORON shuts down all the intricate parts of a Govt. By & For We The People...

*I mean there is already proof that elections have consequences just a few weeks in with like 12 Airline, Small Jet, Airport Runway incidents since 'Rump & Musk attacked the FAA & Aviation Safety Dept. since they were investigating Musk & SpaceX!

EVERYTHING THEY DO IS TO COVER THEIR ILLEGAL SHADY $$$ & POWER MOVES! CALL THEM OUT ON IT DAILY IS UP TO US NOW WITH A MSM ALL CUCKING FOR CON-FELON 'RUMP ALMOST 10 YEARS NOW!

I've seen such disgusting comments in local forums on FB where local govt is setting up support centers for federal workers. The non-federal workers are basically saying shut up, you're just mad you got fired because you didn't want to work in an office 5 days a week, go get a real job like the rest of us, I'm not donating to a food bank to support you.

Apologies if you have seen this before, but one more thing we can do is to promote a way to fight back that was on substack a while back by Timothy Snyder (On Tyranny), and Robert Hubbell a couple days ago.

So, the Democrats clearly must get louder to respond forcefully to the administration blitz. To do so, we can form form a Democratic People's Cabinet, our best folks fighting, calling out illegalities, and presenting an alternative vision. Please >repost< and sign this petition-Over 6.5K signers so far.

Wonderful ideas here. I agree that baby steps are the way to start. Save the sledge hammers for later. Washington is a “safe” state with the vast majority of our representatives on the D side of the aisle.

I had an idea: Let’s send the written oath of office which each Congressperson and Senator gave prior to taking office, and ask: If you believe in the Constitution, why are you letting the President and his co-president Musk trample all over it. Have you no shame?

Here’s the oath:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
