In addition to the requested communications regarding their requested opposition dangerous and foolish nomination of Hegseth (especially given the president-elect’s bellicose remarks) I wrote to each of our CA senators demanding that they speak out loudly against The Madman’s lies about Gov Newsom’s water management and that they stand firm to ensure Federal aid comes through, and to ensure the fight against climate change continues to be a priority.

We must all get loud and demand our representatives get loud enough to show up on the evening news, like the MAGA crowd does. Eventually, the legacy media will pick it up. What we believe in is right and it is good because it is about taking care of each other as a country.

Thank you, Virginia. No one feels like they're out of the woods, yet, but at least the most immediate danger seems to be passed.

I live in Louisville, CO, the community ravaged by the Marshall Fire three years ago. I've attached an article from The Colorado Sun about the subsequent scientific studies conducted by the University of Colorado about the subsequent dangerous toxicity in homes that survived the fire, but were shrouded in smoke and subsequent wind-blown toxicity. Be aware of this as you and your neighbors recover. "As California reels, study shows Marshall fire made air in nearby homes hazardous for months" https://coloradosun.com/2025/01/09/marshall-fire-smoke-health-hazards-cu-boulder-studies/?utm_source=Colorado+Sun+App&utm_medium=App+Share+Button

I’m in Lafayette, CO and was just messaging with my CA family who is near the fires. Thank you, V, for sharing such important information about air quality - especially in the homes near the fires. I’ll be sharing this with my family 💕

Thank you. We are running two air filters constantly in our home and will continue to do so.

The answer to oligarchs is to get the money out of our political system.

Dave Conant - MO's avatar

Great idea, but the oligarchs and their beneficiaries are the gatekeepers for that and are unlikely to turn away from a major source of income and power. We have to make sure that whoever we're voting for, in either party or as an independent, is thoroughly and publicly opposed to the principles behind Citizens United and is willing to sponsor legislation to that effect at both the state and federal levels.

100%. I've just been thinking about this. I think we need a list of qualifications for candidates we will support and that's at the top of it. Also rejecting ALL corporate PAC money, opposing Congressional stock trading, and committing to supporting a billionaires' tax. And some sort of affidavit swearing that if they violate any of these they will resign.

if you possibly can/may stay out of LA area until it rains and the fire is out. Every person NOT there diminishes the drain on every resource. Love, Doc

We'll Jess,

I try to avoidl trite aphorisms but we'll all need to rise up from this hellish nightmare, you more than most and rally round the idea that "steel is forged in fire"!!

Whatever God is up to now, in whatever galaxy, he needs to start saving California.

So happy to hear you and your family are safe! Just heard the Court made a reasoned decision RE:T. For all of Roberts’ bluster, he may have taken a step to secure a more positive outlook for trust in the court. And, our voices have been heard, no matter that he ‘Says” our comments have been inappropriate.

The US Supreme Court does not listen to public opinion, nor should they. Don’t bother. Sorry.

Is there anything we can do about the NC Supreme Court Republicans ruling to prevent the State Board of Elections from certifying the results of the race where the Democratic judge leads by 734? This seems like a violation of the constitution or at very least election interference.
