Hi, all, and happy Friday. Such as it is, of course. It’s a grim anniversary, and things in the House of Representatives are grimmer still. Kevin McCarthy may yet win his speakership, but the price he—and all of us—will pay is extortionate. Every additional vote he picks up comes, one assumes, from what should be unthinkable concessions—concessions that will lead to suffering for regular Americans, an unforgivable waste of taxpayer money, and less accountability for those who should, if anything, be receiving more.
Did you see this from the Democratic National committee? Do you know if it is good?

I know we had talked about organizing around being able to reach out to others waaaaay back before the holidays. Sorry- I have to learn how to copy and paste links to things- I will get there. thanks for you
You're absolutely right - action is what will define our future. And Rep. Hakeem Jefferies' speech on Friday night as he passed the gavel to that pond scum McCarthy gave me all the life I needed to get through the next two years. Onward and upward!
ACTION for Monday: I'm repeating a comment from Richardson's substack:
Barbara Jo Krieger: We have one immediate play. The House rules package, which won’t be released until Monday, includes at least half of what McCarthy has promised to the Freedom Caucus to get the votes for Speaker. Considering forty or so more reasonable establishment Republicans have held their seats, were they to oppose the more egregious parts of the package they could prevent McCarthy from implementing what he had promised. ... [Let's call] House bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus members his weekend. I will be dialing up Republicans from the list, urging them to vote against the package that not only is screwing the country, but also is screwing them, given, for example, the significant number of coveted committee assignments already pledged to the Freedom Caucus.

Agree wholeheartedly - we stay active is the way we stay positive. Mailed 50 postcards for WI and doing 50 more this weekend. Keep it going folks!
Love it! Thank you!
