I am so glad you mentioned Rewiring America's Personal Electrification Planner. I signed up for it before it was available and anticipated receiving the email when it was ready to go. I've filled in my information and can get started getting things done. It is easy to use.
Oh good! I'm going to use it, too, because we want to electrify a few more things here but it feels overwhelming to figure out the order, the rebates, etc..
Supreme Court lifetime tenure. Not working so well for us now, but remember the Warren Court and much of the courage for Brown vs Board of Education devolved from the political protection of lifetime tenure. Love, Doc
18 year term limits are the world standard. And once that's done you're still technically on the court, so in that sense your lifetime position is secure.
The Taylor Swift issue shows the level of panic Trump/MAGA world is feeling. At FOX, the star anchor, Sean Hannity, with a following of 2.4 million viewers, is publically advising Taylor Swift, who has 287 million followers, that it would be a big brand mistake for her to endorse President Biden.
Funny how those numbers don't align. Taylor should be advising Hannity it would be good for his brand if he dumped Trump and supported Biden.
Whether Taylor decides to endorse Biden or to limit her influence to getting millions of eligible Gen Z young people out to vote in 2024, she can single handedly add several million votes to Joe Biden's total.
After watching a couple of short Taylor Swift interviews, about whom I know very little, this woman will not be pushed around. And she’s certainly not afraid of a lying kook like Sean Hannity. If he thinks a not so veiled threat to her is going to have any impact that’s helpful for republicans, he is very confused.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for leading with: "First: It's go time on the bipartisan tax package that expands the Child Tax Credit. It’s on the floor today—floor debate is around 5-6 ET and the vote is tentatively at 8PM or so. While this version isn’t as robust as the one we saw—and loved—in 2021, it’ll still pull almost half a million children out of poverty, and that’s no small thing. So we’ll be calling in support of it. " I hope all who look at the comments will take a moment to make those calls. What a great thing it will be when this vote goes through and it automatically reduces child poverty levels in the US!
Jessica, I love the quotes from Marcus Aurelius - thank you!
Every once in a while I get extra frustrated that I don't have a voting representative or senator from DC. This is one of those times. Is there something else I can do, someone else I can call that you would recommend? Thanks!
I feel so bad for DC folks. I'm assuming you're signed up woth the big orgs working to get DC statehood? That would be one thing. Then, I'd say just help us elect enough Democrats to get these guys out of power and get enough Dems in to pass such a bill!
I also looked for the recording of Anand Giridharadas and watched him and David Corn at the Chicago Humanities Festival a year ago. Title; Is the Public still Persuadable."
Near the end [51.14 ish] in answer to a question about using AI tech to bring us together David Corn mentions deep canvassing. I want to learn more and see if I can do it. [A change from writing postcards :-)
I wonder if we HAVE to give up on a whole slice of American people. What if they can be persuaded? Do we have anything to lose by trying?
One of the other workshops Indivisible is doing in that series is on deep canvassing! I posted a link to the whole series a few days ago in the newsletter.
My stack of postcards to urge votes for Suozzi went out on the 26th!
Thanks, Cheryl!
Mine too, and I've got a few more to go. Yay us!!!
On the postcard to E. Jeanne Carroll and Roberta Kaplan, I suggest adding Shawn Crowley and Mike Ferrara who were part of the firm’s litigation team👏
Great idea! Thanks!
Or send 4 postcards; one to each involved.
Jessica, you said it. Look for strength and opportunity.
Yes!

I look forward to checking things off the list!

Go Taylor.
Even if all she does is tell her people not to vote third party she could save us.

I agree. She's wonderful and very, very tough.

I agree. It's huge, and I'm proud to know that every member of the Dem caucus will likely support it.
