Hi, all, and happy Tuesday!

It may feel like we are repeating ourselves with today’s calls, but I can’t stress strongly enough how urgent such repetition is. We need to convince ten Congressmembers to oppose Manchin’s bill, and just a handful of Senators. We can do this! But it requires making significant noise. Right now—like, as we speak— leadership is feeling their members out to see whether they’ll support this dirty deal. And guess what? Those members are basing their decisions at least partially on what their constituents are saying. So let’s get calling!

Once we’ve made the calls ourselves let’s share this call to action with like-minded friends—I even put together an EZ resource document containing all the calls to make and emails to send.

It must be clear to every one of our elected representatives that gutting our climate goals in order to please one fossil-fuel funded Senator is a fool’s errand.

And it will be clear…if we do our jobs well.

I know there is a movement afoot to sneak Joe Manchin’s Energy Independence and Security Act into the NDAA, and that a vote could come as soon as tomorrow. I absolutely oppose passage of this bill, and I will be very, very disappointed if it’s snuck through in this way. We do need permitting reform, but not in a way that fast tracks more oil and gas pipelines and guts the National Environmental Policy Act. No way. We are in a climate emergency. I want the Senator to fight Manchin’s bill tooth and nail.

Also, I want the Senate to confirm Justice Maria Araujo Kahn to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Thanks.

I’m calling the Congresswoman in her capacity as Speaker of the House because I am hearing that Joe Manchin’s dirty side deal could be added to the National Defense Authorization Act. This is unacceptable. We do not want that side deal passed, and we will be furious if it’s snuck through in a must-pass bill while you think no one is watching. Please ask the Speaker to ensure that Manchin’s deal is kept as a stand-alone bill. Those of us who just helped Democrats win a historic midterm victory will be watching carefully. Thanks.

I'm deeply concerned about the Energy Independence and Security Act and any legislation that would fast-track fossil fuel projects and undermine the public's ability to give input on new energy projects. As your constituent, I’m writing to demand that you publicly oppose this dirty deal and do all you can to stop it from being attached to the NDAA or any other "must pass legislation.

We need clean energy in our country. We simply cannot afford to invest more time and money into outdated oil and gas infrastructure. We need clean renewable energy to achieve real energy independence and security. Any national permitting reform should center, not silence, frontline communities and environmental justice, and should be developed through regular committee processes.

Please stand up for your constituents by publicly opposing this dangerous legislation. Thanks.
