That is great news, Jess, about former Subwoofer McCarthy! I called him that because I considered him to be at the lowest end of the speaker range. Let's hope the same fate befalls Mike Johnson, who's proving himself to be every bit as duplicitous and smarmy (and subwooferish) as McCarthy.

Unless I missed it in your summary, you didn't comment about Tommy Tuberville's about-face on the military promotions (sounds like a great cartoon). As you noted in the ResistBot section, he's still holding up a more manageable 11 Four-Stars, but at least he gave up on his ridiculous and destructive hold on hundreds of other promotions. I gotta believe that our outreach to his fellow senators had an impact. Make sure that one gets a big hatchet this weekend!

And we need to keep reaching out, via today's Resistbot letter, phone call, or email. Some of the 11 are senior area commanders and 3 are deputy chiefs of staff. The Senator from Alabama who lives in Florida needs to be slapped down hard and, whenever he comes up for election, send home to wherever he lives to dream about coaching football.

Thanks, Dave. I missed that. I'll go back and edit my comments. You're absolutely right.

YES! I do think our pressure had a huge impact! It's in EE but you're right--it deserves a callout in the newsletter. I'll do that today.

Central N. C. gasoline $2.85, major factor in "inflation" felt by the voters who don't pay much attention to politics.

Jess Craven's avatar

Is that a lot? Sorry it's between 5 and 6 a gallon here, and always is.

We complain in the $3 range and cry at $4 and yell at $5 plus.

If it stays under $3 President Biden will be reelected; this reflects crude oil below $70 a barrel, light Texas crude, the benchmark.

I do not believe Kevin will be leaving the political scene. He has stated he has plans that he is eager to be starting. That peeks my interest - good or bad. I think it will be bad mostly

Yeah, but Paul Ryan said the same thing. Doesn't really matter what the intentions are--once they're out of Congress they lose a huge amount of power. We'll see.

Would like to know what the methane rule IS so we can brag with knowledge. West Texas Light Crude oil closed at $69.24 today. IF crude stays in the $60-70 range for 11 months, President Biden will be re-elected.

McCarthy retiring is not surprising; no future for him in the House; maybe better at home. We have lost several we will miss. The concern is that bad money chases good money out of circulation. The Trumpian chaos discourages good legislators from hanging around and encourages those that thrive in the chaos; NOT a signal for competent governance. Same is true for all potential candidates. The remedy is an overwhelming electoral win for Democrats next fall, reelect the President, control the Senate, and, despite gerrymandering, win control of the House by 30 or more seats. So keep up your important work, Jessica Craven; even if you have to serve on the LA County Dem Party council.

Haha will do, and I agree wholeheartedly. As much as I detest KM, he is *relatively* moderate compared to the rest of his caucus (and we're grading on quite the curve, here). It's not a great sign that so many GOP members of his ilk are leaving. As for the EPA rule, try this: https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/biden-harris-administration-finalizes-standards-slash-methane-pollution-combat-climate

I really appreciate it! I actually did have both of those already but what I didn't have, and what I just borrowed from you, is the gift links! I only get 10 a month so I can't possibly use one for every item in EE, so actually others offering me theirs is very helpful! Thank you!

Imagine Kevin McCarthy as Governor of California. He's been raking in millions the last 2 cycles. Scary business.

Thank you, Jess for all you do. I love the MIT climate

Jessica,

Check this out https://missoulian.com/news/local/missoula-wetlands-restored/article_f6cb9898-3302-11ee-b723-03 I saw a Joe Biden Infrastructure Project sign on what looked to be a construction site so I did some snooping and found the linked article. Good news indeed!

Thanks to Rick Moody for introducing me to your “chop wood carry water” site. It’s rich but too much to do all of your important suggestions for participating in righting the planet everyday. Rather than get overwhelmed, I’ve decided to subscribe to your post AND do one of your suggestions regularly so I can continue to write my book, Legacy Writing in the Age of Covid, and my column on SubStack, Reflections at 85.

There is only one Creator, in my belief system. "Christian", meaning narrow-minded and judgemental, is not expressive of the Teachings of Jesus, or any other Divine Messenger.
