Hey, Jessica. Haven't read anything yet. Here's some news from...The Great State of Virginia! that you might want to put in next Sunday's Extra! Extra!

https://apnews.com/article/virginia-elections-2023-general-assembly-8cc62a8f92b1327c23ec8f9e9c5e23af?utm_source=copy&utm_medium=share

Bottom Line: “'I’m satisfied with the way the election was administered, and the ultimate tabulations that were done, and the final determinations and the certification today,' said Rich Anderson, chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia."

WE have a difficult transition dilemma about natural gas/methane, a significant contributor to global warming. Much "natural gas" has been already tapped; IF it leaks out into the atmosphere it contributes to global warming; BAD. Changing a coal fired electric generation power plant to natural gas is the least expensive way to stop coal burning and still have the electricity generated that provides the backup for solar and wind. (full disclosure; I have installed two solar arrays of 25 KW capacity on my home/farm and Central Electric Membership Corp remains my backup. The wholesale price of electricity is reported by CEMC to be down so that they pay me 3.5cents/KWH instead of 5.25cents/KWH as their "avoided cost" dropped from 4 months ago.) IF the methane is burned, it produces CO2 and H2O, which contributes much less to global warming than methane. Methane can be produced and harvested in the process of composting manure and other organic wastes. LNG, liquid natural gas, is the most efficient way to store and move natural gas without leaks. We need to produce the electricity for those EV cars so we can burn less gasoline for cars that produce, not only toxic exhaust, but enormous amounts of friction/heat that directly heats the atmosphere.

Our most realistic way to cool the planet is the have fewer babies so we have fewer of us polluting while we install the technology to keep us alive instead of fighting wars over the last drop of water.

See "Every War Is An UnCivil War", vol lll of "Sex and the 21st Century: AR-W/(P-I) x ATroc = Q" on amazon kindle or paperback. We are doing this with falling birth rates in Japan, China, Korea, Singapore, Australia, most of India, Pakistan, Iran, Russia, EU, UK, USA, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina and others according to World Bank data. PUP, Prevent Unintended Pregnancies, currently over half of all pregnancies world wide, and we may survive. Love, Doc

Got it. I'm in Judy Chu's district. Can't remember the number. I'll call her office. It's time to get back in. My last deep involvement was for Jerry Brown's re-election. At least he invited me to the big party downtown when he won. When we were kids we and all the other kids were outback at the Zieglers for his Dad's big fund raisers.

What are your thoughts on the comparative efficacy of calls vs emails? Does it vary a lot depending on the representative and their staff, or is it consistent across the board? Calls show more effort, but I'm sure nobody has time to listen to them all. Does every rep have a good auto-transcription solution? I read the ResistBot article about how letters are parsed, categorized, summarized, and tallied, but I'm not sure what that means for calls.

Hi Jessica, Apologies if you have had this as an action. I'm with the Downtown Nasty Women in NYC and we are encouraging our members to submit comments for a very important GUN SAFETY proposed rules change . I'm hoping that you can help amplify. We have an opportunity to close the loophole and demand background checks on new guns sold. The info below is from the Giffords Courage to Fight Gun Violence group and and link on how to submit your comments (with sample copy so its VERY easy). DEADLINE IS DEC 7 (takes 5 minutes and the pro gun groups are all over this trying to stop the change)!

"1 in 5 legal gun sales happen without background checks due to loopholes in current federal law. A new proposed rule would crack down on unlicensed gun sellers and expand background checks to more gun buyers. But first, we need to drive as many public comments of support before the December 7 deadline. The gun lobby will fight tooth and nail to oppose this rule—they want to sell more guns, even to people convicted of domestic abuse or violent felonies. We need to drive as many comments as possible.

Every year, millions of firearms are sold in the United States without a background check, no questions asked. Only federally licensed firearm dealers are required to conduct a background check—but people can sell guns without being a licensed dealer. That means someone convicted of a violent crime could be turned away from a licensed gun dealer, walk across the street, and buy an AR-15 at a gun show—no questions asked. If you sell guns for profit, you should be required to run a background check on gun buyers. It’s just common sense."

Please follow the instructions here to submit your comments. https://giffords.org/action/tell-atf-expand-background-checks/
