Congratulations on invitation. I'm with Biden on the Pardon and many more of them.
Enough of righteousness. Be kind....save good people. And yes, good to see so many groups facing up to what happened and back at work reconfiguring. Since the Dems and progressives have most of the comics on our side I think there can be many knife sharp commentaries that may attract more people.....not to mention tik tok and just generally YouTube. Cmon, you creative types....get busy....try try try again. and thank you Jess.
"But the information contained in this report remains salient, if only to show how badly we need to break through the Republican misinformation bubble."
'misinformation' is bad info caused by errors or mistakes.
What's happening now (and has been with the convicted felon, his MAGA Repubs, and going as far back as Newt Gingrich and Frank Luntz in the mid-90s) is 'disinformation'—i.e., deliberately false info intended to manipulate public opinion, aka propaganda.
Thank you, Jessica! You are a heroine and inspiration to me!
This is the BIG, or at least one of the BIG findings from this election:
"These folks are truly struggling in many cases, and I don’t want to downplay that, but they’ve also been subject to a daily deluge of lies... This is all false, but to them it’s true. We have to get better at getting the actual truth out to where they can actually hear it."
A 1984-ish version of 'alternative reality' was unfortunately enormously successful, and a major task for us is not so much (or not at all) changing our policies or our actions, but overcoming the Disinformation Machine that Trump and MAGA Republicans effectively and sadly for our country, have wielded. Disinformation that is poisonous and harmful.
Jessica, you are wonderful! Thank you for all you do! Thank you for this breakdown. I was on the call too. So "great" to see the details in the reports although disappointing despite all the work. It gave a me a sense of relieve to get even further down to more info on why things happened the way they did.
Congratulations on accepting the invitation! Well deserved.🎉✨️
Great piece today, Jess! The analysis has a lot of things to think about, but where you say, "We have to get better at getting the actual truth out to where they can actually hear it," I think it should be, "...to where they can actually feel it." Hearing it, especially against the cacophony of lies, isn't enough. Somehow, we need to find a way for people to actually feel the truth.
One fact that doesn't seem to get enough play is that despite what we think of the outcome of the election, or what trump will likely do and the damage he will inflict, and how much we should resist, the truth is that he or his VP will be calling the shots for the next four years. We must, in the words of the Serenity Prayer, have the "serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Let's be wise, but resolute.
p.s. Thanks for the acknowledgment at the end for my small contribution to the cause!
I'm so excited you're going to the First Lady reception at the White House! Lots of pics! I'm so glad you are getting recognized for this AMAZING work. Happy subscriber for many years. Loads of love.
Thank you for the summary. I, too, was astounded at first to read your comments about Biden pardoning his son and your concerns about morality. But then I thought to myself, wait, no, she is not going to accuse Biden of that and so I went back and read it carefully and I understood clearly what you were saying then. It is sad and disturbing to know that if he’s not trusting the justice department, nobody can. And I don’t blame him. I’m glad you’re going. I wish I were! But I know I would burst out crying.
Can somebody explain what is exactly so bad about the economy? do people mean inflation which is coming down or food prices? Unemployment is the lowest it’s been in decades and the billion dollar infrastructure bill is helping every single state in the country. Every community has benefited from that bill. What do people mean when they talk about their perception that Economy is really doing horribly?
Wages barely kept pace with inflation under Biden, whereas under Trump, they outpaced inflation by quite a bit and people remember that. They also remember the Covid checks with Trump's name on it (grrr). Also, I remember reading in "Kyla's Newsletter" on substack that there are quite a few things that aren't captured by the official inflation rate but I'm forgetting now what they are (so not that helpful, sorry but I remember at the time thinking....aha)!
I love the TO-DO lists!! Actionable items. I have a question. Do you think letters work better than calls or vice versa or does it matter? Some say calls are better. Why is that do you think?
I may be missing something, but wouldn’t AOC be running for ranking Democratic member of the committee, instead of chair? Jessica, I love your newsletter! I just started making regular calls to lawmakers, and it’s helping me feel less powerless.
Thank you for sharing the insights on late-breaking voters. It is disheartening, but I think understandable when you consider the way most people get informed. I wrote about it earlier this week in a post about The Friendly Face of Modern Propaganda https://christopherireland.substack.com/p/the-friendly-face-of-modern-propaganda
I’m GLAD you’re going to the holiday party at the White House. Joe Biden travelled a long way, principle-ly, ethically, world-view(ly) to become the FDR social democrat reformer that he became (thank you Eleanor, Frances Perkins, etc). We must honor him and his vision and somehow finish the job …
Jess - I hope you read Heather CR , and maybe Lucian Truscott, on Biden’s pardon of his son. And I hope doing so might prompt a rethink of your own feelings about the pardon. I’m very supportive of Biden and why he did this. I don’t need to mention reasons because both writers expressed what I’m feeling too. I actually think he should preemptively pardon a whole lot of other folks trump/maga folks are going to go after. Even if those vindictive efforts didn’t succeed, the lives, livelihoods, security and more of those folks would be destroyed. That is what is truly immoral and unconscionable. These are desperate times and we will have to use desperate measures at times not only to protect ourselves but to succeed in saving our country. Thanks so very much for all you do. Glad you are going to the White House!!
First of all, I blame the msm for not getting Biden’s amazing accomplishments out there for all to see.Biden will come down, hands down as one of the most maligned Presidents who deserves none of the battering and blame. The press couldn’t talk about the good that he did putting emphasis on his age and fragility. They propped up with ease a felonious traitor and now we are paying that price.I would like to sue the msm for slander on behalf of Biden. Also gross negligence. They are the reason we got this horrible man and his Freakshow not once but twice! They effectively quashed Harris’s chances by equating her to him.
Congratulations on invitation. I'm with Biden on the Pardon and many more of them.

Thanks for this important share! One note though:

Let's call a spade, a spade.
Ah yes you are correct! Thank you!

Agree
Hey Jess, Just for the record ... for all you say here, and for all you have done and will do ... YOU are "a glorious thing [person] to behold."
AND, grateful for the reminder that "we were born for this!" (Even on the days when we don't feel that's true, or maybe especially, on those days!)
❤️❤️❤️ thanks Jean!
O thank you, Jess!!! 💖

Wasn’t it a fascinating call? So glad you were on it. They have more coming up—I’ll post in the newsletter. And thanks!
My pleasure! Yes, so fascinating! Many thanks!

Love your letter!

Thanks Maggie! I think Biden himself will be there, too. Can’t wait!

I’m worried I will, too. I really almost didn’t accept because I’m afraid I’ll be overcome with sadness. But I’m going.

I found this article helped explain the paradox: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2024/11/biden-harris-economy-election-loss/680592/?ref=readtangle.com

I think they take calls a bit more seriously because they’re frankly more uncomfortable to make. But both hold great weight!
Note to self. Thank you for confirming what I thought
I may be missing something, but wouldn’t AOC be running for ranking Democratic member of the committee, instead of chair? Jessica, I love your newsletter! I just started making regular calls to lawmakers, and it’s helping me feel less powerless.
Ooof yes! God what a miss! Thank you I’ll correct it in the web version.
I’m so grateful for your guidance in making these calls!
