Thanks for another great sharing! I'm a vote for customizing those messages as much as possible. My experience is that "the same message over and over again" TENDS to be counted as one message, but customizing it doesn't just require more effort, it ALLOWS more ways into the issue. When I customize a message I'll at minimum provide my connection to it, and if I can give a specific example of how my comment plays out in real life or based on my experience, all the better.
Jessica, I am wondering if we can get a massive amount of letters and postcards mailed to House Republicans on a single day to be determined--- so many that the deluge of mail to Congress would itself be newsworthy. The messages should be coordinated to plead for the cessation of their shenanigans regarding the debt ceiling.
It's a good idea, but I don't have the bandwidth to coordinate it. Also, I have seen a lot of actions like this, and there never seem to be enough cards to get press attention. Hard to get enough folks to call, let alone take the trouble to write a card. But I say try it! I'm happy to amplify if you craft an action.
Thanks Jessica, I will give it a try. With all those postcard writers out there, maybe this can get some traction. I’ll let you know. To all --- anyone want to help? Please let me know. If folks can host letter writing events, I will be happy to supply stamps and postcards and/or funds to cover costs. To KathyintheWallowas, I agree the messages should be customized but the date posted should be the same.
Let me do a bit of research. I've had actions about it before but it's been awhile. I'll find out what the lay of the land is and come up with an action.
I always suggest calling--even if they are "good lawmakers." I call mine constantly, and they're all progressive Dems. They still need to hear what their constituents are focussed on and what we want THEM to focus on. Also, yes, thanks are always important.
An expression of support for doing right never goes amiss. They have to run again and it helps them to know that constituents do want what they want. Sometimes when Postcardia is exhausted we write thank you cards because it's as uplifting to us as we hope it is to them... and it's an opportunity to call out the tireless staffers for their help too!
Ciao from Italy everyone - I have a question for Jessica and the CW, CW community. Does anyone know how I can email/contact Minority Leader Jeffries in his capacity as Head of the House Democrats? His contact information on his website is restricted to constituents in his district. I remember being able to contact Speaker Pelosi via an email address/contact form that was distinct from the address/form that her constituents used (based on zip code). I would like to write to urge Minority Leader Jeffries to stand firm & hold the caucus steady against GOP terrorists holding our economy hostage. Thanks in advance for any help!
Yeah I was never aware of a special email address for Pelosi separate from her regular one, and I doubt Jeffries will have one, either--although if he does, great! For Pelosi I always called, and just started the comment with "I'm calling her in her capacity as House Speaker." But if you hear of something new and better with Jeffries please let me know!
I think they are updating things online. You can always comment via Twitter, Instagram and Facebook or call the Rayburn House phone number (202) 225-5936 and leave a message.

Any thoughts on what to do about getting the ERA passed?

I'm fortunate to live in Vermont so I don't need to contact my legislators! They will do what's right without my cajoling.
