Thank you! Jess. I faithfully follow your assignments and though it’s not a big contribution, it does make me feel less helpless. I don’t watch a ton of news right now, but it doesn’t seem like the media is that alarmed by our democracy circling the drain. Keep up the good work, thank you so much!
It really is. Years ago I worked on the Sinema campaign. And that one made me wonder why I was even doing this work. I think I do it because it's the CAUSE. Try to keep your eyes on the prize in spite of the players being unworthy.

Sadly we must add RON WYDEN to the list of Dem Senators who voted for S.B.5. Subsequent to its passing, an amendment has been added to only strengthen it. Yet can anyone explain why he and others (who voted YEA) now want to amend the act to protect Dreamers? WTF?
The poor and the disenfranchised will suffer greatly in Trump's America. That's Trump's goal, Musk's goal, Stephen Miller's goal, and maybe Pete Hesbeth's goal is that they should be target practice.
Trump's plans for retribution will terrorize the majority and delight the minority. It will be awhile, but we'll see how that works out.
I worked to flip NY-19 to Josh Riley. Who also voted for the horrible Laken Riley act, even though his constituents were so tired of Marc Molinaro's hate postings on immigrants. Riley's phone ALWAYS goes straight to voice mail and often the box is full. He does not respond to email submissions even if a response is requested. It seems he is unresponsive to hearing from his constituents. Any ideas on how to address this?
Call his office and ask to schedule an in-person meeting with a staffer. Just keep trying until you get someone. Try emailing, too. He’s a brand new rep and may just be tying to find his sea legs but Indivisible folks say the best way of pressuring lawmakers is meeting with their staffers in person. Bring a group with you!
My legislators don’t always respond to emails, even with response request,so I suggest just keep sending as someone is reading/tallying. Is he on social media ??
Jess, thank you for your time and energy to keep us up to speed. You are greatly appreciated! Your "prepared messages" are fabulous and make it easy & quick for us to make calls & send our desires for action. The issue based information also helps with understanding and sharing. Keep it up!!
I like your decision to stay focused on one or two issues. Otherwise, it gets overwhelming for all of us. Thank you for the links to this bill. I have been writing emails, and I hope emails are a good way to contact my representatives. I am also taking a four-week course on Gandhi and nonviolence. We are going to need an imaginative toolkit going forward. I am also going to spend some time checking out the interesting U-tubes listed in Resurgence and the Ecologist, especially those dealing with Climate Change. A lot is going on under the wire. It is good to know there are so many folks and organizations doing wonderful work, most of whom we never hear about in the mainstream press. I suspect we will hear even less about them now. There are healthy alternatives to the present madness.
Your newsletter is the only one I read because it is positive – so important to everyone these days – thank you. I’m now totally distraught with the immigrant raids – it’s horrific and I could say lots more - but my question: Besides donating money and supporting additional legislation protection in CA, if we aren’t a lawyer or work for an immigrant support agency, how can retirees help unauthorized people and their family members deal with the stress and hardship they now face? I think many of us would move on from all the phoning, postcarding, texting and canvassing we did last year if we knew how to help. My only lead so far has been the Justice for Migrant Families WNY organization in Buffalo which helps people in detention centers. Any suggestions for California (or other areas)? Thank you.
Sadly I do not see the electorate understanding the nuance necessary. The voters will punish these Dems if they vote no on Laken. I saw much support for Trump’s “illegals” bs in fb comments during the election even in a blue state. The best sound bite I can come up with is, “Of course it is preferable to be raped and murdered by American citizens.”

I've been on my Senators in VA to get an Amendment through to at least curb Laken Riley's misuse and overreach. Here it is. Our only hope to curb some of the misuse and extreme use of this bill. Not sure if it will come up tonight or tomorrow etc. People should call for Senators to pass this improvement to the bill. https://www.kaine.senate.gov/press-releases/kaine-bennet-hickenlooper-king-lujan-merkley-shaheen-van-hollen-warner-and-welch-unveil-amendment-to-improve-laken-riley-act
I wonder…I thought the window for amendments had already closed but I hope I’m wrong.
Thank you, Karen. I wish I saw this before I contacted Warner and Kaine a few hours ago. But so glad they are attempting a fix.
The other thing is... I worked to get almost all those senators elected. Worked my ass off. Or Ossoff. Him too. I'm disgusted.
It’s truly disheartening.

Did and done. Both calls to all my mocs and the resist bot. Thank you!!! I'd love to treat you to a treat. You give us tools to fight back.

Great question.
What I find interesting in the most recent news is ICE in CA, but not any red states where the rich are using them as cheap labor!!!!!!!
“Interesting”. Hmmm. 45/7 hates California. We should secede.
Thank you, Jess. You always give us helpful and hopeful concrete actions to take.

We should be calling out Mike Johnson for kissing the ring...by raising the flaga on election day. Scumbag/
Perhaps we will do that tomorrow.

YOU’RE amazing! Thank for all you do! I’m with Kathleen! I’m faithfully following your assignments! In this together.
Thanks Sharon.
