When I called my (MAGA) Congresswoman today, after asking her to oppose the idea of combining debt ceiling increase with aid to Californians suffering from the fire emergency, I noted to the woman who answered my call that it seemed wrong to me that a woman would shake the hand of a rapist and convicted felon and announce her pride in having him as the most public representative of our country's government. From her tone of voice, I don't think she'd ever thought of it in those terms before. Making legislative staffers uncomfortable with the positions their bosses are taking is another way of instigating change.

Still time to call your Senators TODAY while Hegseth hearings are in progress ! I’ve called Rick Scott’s DC office numerous times and today is the FIRST time I got a live person.(Rubio has left the building and unable to leave messages)

Per Simon Rosenberg..” Let me explain how the calls play here in DC. Senators will be asking each other today "how are the calls coming in?" If there is an absence of negative calls, it will encourage them to go forward with the nomination. They need to feel like there is concern, that it is registering and breaking through back home. And yes, call the DC offices if you can.”

I called Senator Budd and Senator Tillis (NC) and talked to staffers about the nominations and both bills. I've been calling for months and have never gotten a staffer until yesterday at 6pm and now every call today. They are definitely listening this week.

Good!

I just got voicemail for Budd and Tillis. Got a person this morning. The rat bastards are unlikely to stand up but that doesn't mean we should stop trying!

Agreed if they hear from enough people I think they'll vote against the worst of the nominees but not all. And Tillis is in an interesting position as a moderate republican that know Cooper might go against him in 2026 so he's most likely to vote no on some of these nominations between the two.

Wow, Jessica, I’m so glad your Substack ended up in my feed. It makes so much sense and feels more gratifying to actually do something. I will look forward to your posts. Thanks so much and take care.

I used Resistbot to send msg to Pres Biden to publish the Equal Rights Amendment. It worked fine.

did you type it in with hyphens? 302-404-0880?

I did. I think I goofed because no one else is having difficulty. My apologies and thanks for the help.

I'm curious how you knew it didn't work? Did it say it was undeliverable?

In my fervor, I typed it in without the 1 and the area code in parentheses. Ugh. Sorry.

Okay, I just made the calls to my Senator (Bernie Moreno, heaven help us) and my Representative. I'm sharing that here, because maybe it will help someone else do the same. I find making these calls ridiculously difficult. It's crazy, I know, but there it is. So -- if you feel the same way, well, maybe share it here -- but try just one call, after hours, too. I'm still alive to tell the tale, and you will be, too. Maybe, just maybe, we can help each other do whatever the next brave thing is for each of us.

For those who find this to be easy-peasy, perhaps do *your* next brave thing, too. If we all keep growing into the next thing and the next thing, we really will be a force of nature.

thank you for this! I emailed and called my representatives and Senators today. The bad news is so overwhelming I just want to hide under my blanket to be honest.

I feel helpless. I am really trying to look for a place to put all my anxiety into. Anyone have any ideas for me, a 18 year old, to volunteer.

I am terrified of the upcoming President and I need to do something!

Hi Jessica! I live in CA so most of my calls are to staffers who agree with our views on bills/nominations but I love that you gave us extra credit today to call Mike Johnson office....it was a great pleasure to express my displeasure in how congress is attempting to treat CA differently when it comes to aid for the fires.

I appreciate you and your newsletters so very much and I continue to tell (harp) on my friends to subscribe and ACT ! thanks.

Thanks, Jessica! Fir your Helpful links and ideas. I called my senators this morning to protest Hegseth’s nomination. Honestly, what is wrong with these elected officials who support such an unqualified person ? And There is so much to protest! Like the unchristian speaker Mike Johnson wanting to put conditions on federal assistance for LA fire victims. Plus they keep lying about the causes.

I dutifully called my senator (Bernie Moreno) and was basically (albeit very nicely) told her would vote yes on both bills and for the Confirmation of Pete Hegseth. Living in OH is depressing. Also called my (R) rep. It’s almost disheartening.

Is it better to call our Senators'/Reps' local office or DC office?
