Hi, all, and happy Monday! The word “respite” is defined as a short period of rest or relief from something difficult or unpleasant. It comes from the Latin root respectus, which means “refuge.” I hope you got a respite over this short break. I mentioned in last night’s email that I went on a complete news and social media fast this weekend—something I haven’t done in years. It was a refuge and a respite, indeed; it did me a world of good.
discussed the uneven [to say the least] news coverage, NYT and WaPo were discussed. A commenter suggested we all write to news outlets to complain. What about a serious letter writing campaign from all of us who already write letters [VoteForward] and postcards?
Who could help us organize this? And MANY thanks to Judd and team for this incredible reporting.
I’ve had two Resistbot letters about it so far and today I’ll put in the letter we had yesterday (to Congress) as a WH letter. You may not have been a subscriber back when this crisis first started to unfold but after trying to put actions about it in the newsletter it became clear that a) I wasn’t informed enough to be writing actions (I typically only focus on US elections and policy) and b) any action I put in was seen as utterly wrong by half of my readers. So I’ve encouraged subscribers to look for such actions in other, more suitable places. But at this point I feel more comfortable putting in such calls and have been. Thus yesterday’s post. You’ll see more going forward. It’s an incredibly delicate thing when you have a broad base of subscribers and I’m trying to hold my coalition together so we can defeat Trump next year.
I think the Social Security tax should be charged on all wage income above the current maximum cutoff, $160,200, which would lower the rate for everyone, and apply a declining benefit on higher wealth.
You have an amazing donor with the $10K match challenge for the Movement Voter Project. In addition to donating, it looks like they could use more Follows on Threads, which is easy to do:
This morning Judd Legum on Popular.Info
shocked me with his muckraking article; "Kushner's Mexican Connection" and I wrote the following comment;

I haven't seen much prompting to communicate with the White House about a lasting ceasefire & am wondering why. Thoughts?

Please don't take it as a criticism, I was thinking of all the places I might find actions. Thanks for all that you do!
Absolutely and thank you!

Yes I’ve done Resistbot letters on the cap before. It’s such an easy fix.
Thanks, Jessica. I'm glad you took a break from us LOL! But seriously, for all you do, taking more than a few days off would not be out of line.
Maybe over my Christmas holiday...😉
