Also, Biden needs to pardon his son.

Expand full comment

No, he shouldn't. He said he would not and he needs to keep his word.

Expand full comment

I believe he will keep his word. And, that’s exactly what is important right now. Biden respects the rule of law and his son’s plea of guilty.

Expand full comment

That’s fine and dandy that he follows the rule of law if he were setting an example. Except no one else is. I’ve always thought him an honorable leader, I really wouldn’t want him to stop being true to his values, but would it be so bad if he played by their rules for once?

I can still make phone calls to my congressional delegation -- and I SO appreciate your helpful scripts, Jessica!

Thanks, Jan! Yes, I have done that, and I am fortunate enough to live in a blue state. I agree: Jessica's scripts are awesome!

I'm in blood-red Idaho -- but I still harangue my peeps (politely but firmly). May not get my way, but I do get my say :-)

Is there a House rule that says they can't take the comments of a non-constituent? I understand I won't get a personal reply if I'm not a constituent, and I'm fine with that. But to be told that they won't take my comment because I'm not in their district is ridiculous.

Expand full comment

In my experience, their office staff will take your comment -- it just doesn't carry much weight if you're not a constituent. Agree that it's ridiculous since federal legislators' decisions affect the whole country and not just their districts, but that's the system we have :-(

Got it! Thanks!

Thanks for this pep talk, Jess. We need to keep our heads on straight and eat that R elephant one bite, one day at a time. I called my Senators today, leaving messages on their vmail. Then I called Sen. Schumer, left a vmail. Then, I called Sen. Durbin and GOT A LIVE, REAL, BREATHING PERSON!! I was so shocked! She was delightful, I spoke with her about LOUDLY and STRONGLY OPPOSING the Four Horsepersons of the Apocalypse (Gabbard, Gaetz, Kennedy & Hegseth). She got it immediately, and SHE THANKED ME FOR CALLING. Please please please call your senators, Schumer and Durbin. I'm going to call again later this week, then twice a week for the next two months. They are counting calls!!

Expand full comment

You can also urge Senator Durbin to "invite" Jack Smith to appear before the Judiciary Committee for a public hearing on his investigation of Trump.

Jess - Are you aware of this effort by Stephen Spoonamore to investigate possible/probable hacking of the election, especially in the swing states?? He makes a case to call for hand recounts.

Angela, I'm so glad you brought this up. I have shared it with a few activist friends but we're at a loss how to respond.

Expand full comment

I'm hoping that Jessica has some ideas about that. I just forwarded it to MSNBC to see if it might pique their interest to dig into it.

Expand full comment

I've been really reluctant to touch this one. Feels too much like false hope. But enough people are talking about it that I'm sure someone more qualified than me is taking a look. I'm just not that person.

Expand full comment

Angela, I read this and got chills, but upon a little investigation, I am not sure it's real. As a journalist, I find it odd that there are no links to his data sources. When I look at the election results in these states, I am not seeing the huge discrepancies he describes. In NC, for example, instead of 350K "bullet ballot" votes for only Trump that he suggest exist, it looks more like 107K, which is only 1.8% of voters (3.7% of Trump voters). I would love to see a reliable news outlet with fact-checkers do a deep dive on this data. If his data IS correct, it's extremely alarming, but I can't confirm what he is claiming.

Would love to hear Jess's thoughts--especially WHY someone might write this, if it were not true: Simply to sow chaos and confusion and doubt?

Expand full comment

Yes, I worry that this is just conspiracy-minded stuff. I absolutely get the temptation to believe it, but this seems doubtful

Is it not to late? Kamala conceded. A recount makes sense as all signs led to a dem win.

Here is Mr. Spoonamoore's message posted today. Sadly, he sounds like he hasn't gotten any response from the Harris campaign and seems quite discouraged.

Good morning Jessica.I had just hit submit on an email to Judy Chu as your post popped up. I asked her to please tell all she can in Congress that no government agency shall abbridge freedom of speech and to resoundingly vote NO on HR 9495. I also called both of her offices and told her staff to pass on that same message and a whole lot more.

Have you caught up with your sleep yet?

If I'm not able to help by phonebanking or canvassing, is there a need for donations to support ballot curing? If so, is there a place to donate that you'd recommend?

Thank you!! We could use donations to Allison Riggs campaign for Supreme Court Justice here in NC. Right now she is 66 votes ahead and it will certainly go to a recount, which will need funding. https://secure.actblue.com/donate/riggswebsite?refcode=footer

Feeling a bit anxious when I saw that the Morning Joe people made peace with Trump. I don't watch them (never have) but it feels like giving in to facism. And, yes, I know this is the corporate media at work, trying to save their own skins, but it feels chilling, too. This all feels hard and scary.

Why did all these people who I wrote postcards for, and donated money to, vote for H.R. 9495, The Stop Terror Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act, a law that would be sure to be used against many institutions we support and depend on? (Schiff, slotkin, Allred...)

Call them and tell them to vote NO this time around! I called several folks in NC who voted yes and told them I'd donated and worked for them.

Good for you!

I did the same with a guy in Ohio who bc of gerrymandering isn't my rep but I supported him financially (and he should be my rep but for gerrymandering).

Expand full comment

I am wondering if they voted yes so they couldn't be accused for supporting terrorists and they knew enough D's in safe blue districts would make sure it didn't pass--when it was a 2/3 needed. Now they can say that they insisted on having section 4 stripped out before they would vote on it .

For anyone wanting to help out with an important down-ballot race, we have a very time-sensitive (in the next 48 hours) need for postcard writing for a seat in the MS Supreme court. The postcard campaign is through Postcards To Voters. If you aren't an approved writer already, it only takes a couple of minutes. You can reach out to: Join@TonyTheDemocrat.org
