Hi, all, and happy Wednesday! The week is off to a good start—Aaron Rouse won his Special Election in Virginia yesterday! By 348 votes, no less! Y’all, do you realize that the phonebanking we on this list did alone could have made that difference? CONGRATULATIONS! It’s proof again not only that every vote matters, but that every moment we spend talking to voters does, too. I phonebanked for both the DNC (on Monday) and the Environmental Voter Project (yesterday), so I feel a bit of ownership in this win. I was part of it. If you made calls to VA voters—even for a half an hour!—you were, too. Bravo!
“ Due to the sudden death of Congressman McEachin of Virginia on November 28, Virginia is holding a special election on February 21st. Early voting is Jan 6 - Feb18. We have just launched a campaign to turn out voters for this election. Because this is a "special" election rather than a general election, most jurisdictions have elected to open a single early voting location.
There is some potential for confusion among the electorate about the two African-American candidates:
*One, JEN MCCLELLAN is a champion of voting rights, equality and racial justice, who authored Virginia Voters' Bill of Rights and the Virginia ERA https://jennifermcclellan.com/
