As an Angeleno, I very much appreciate you bringing attention to the need in our city right now. I’d just like to add more context for the compassion. Along with the wealthy, there are many, many Pacific Palisades families who are not wealthy and had modest homes. They lost everything this week. Their kids’ public schools are gone or uninhabitable. Their community is decimated. Some had even lost their homeowners insurance in the past year. And the devastation reaches far beyond the residents. The many small businesses with customer bases in the Palisades are also greatly impacted. Their owners relied on income from serving the community to support their families. Misconceptions are dangerous. Today, they are fueling TikTok-ers to cruelly post “let it burn” and the like. Those of us fortunate enough to be safe right now will hopefully help all of those who need it.

I think a good place for folks to start if they’re looking to donate is https://www.charitynavigator.org/discover-charities/where-to-give/palisades-fire-2025/. They vet and rate nonprofits and have a page set up for all of the LA area fires. GoFundMe has also set up a page to collect donations that will be distributed to those in need of grants. https://www.gofundme.com/f/wildfire-relief-fund-2025

Good God the cruelty is next level.

I would also like to know any organizations that are rescuing animals, both wildlife and pets. If anyone has recommendations, I would appreciate getting their names. I know Jessica's community is going to step up and help in this catastrophe!

And here is another. https://www.animalwellnessfoundation.org/palisades-fire-relief-fund

Pasadena Humane also needs monetary donations.

The Lange Foundation would be a good place to start. https://langefoundation.org

Best Friends Animal Society (they're also coordinating foster efforts during the fires too, I believe) https://search.app/5MHMbgcF5qH1AtX67

Thank you, Jess, for all of this. Just made calls, and sent emails.

Also got this in my inbox from DemCast. It includes an editable letter to send to our Senators and House Reps to urge them to vote No on the terrible SAVE Act.

Blessings and safe travels for your journey home.

Devastation and losses are heartbreaking.

I contacted my Senators; both ( Democrats) are on the list in support of the L-R Act. 😕

DJT blames Democrats for everything in order to elevate himself. We will keep calling him out for his lies and repeat the truth.

Thank you so much for what you’re doing!

Thank you, Jess, for making donation simple. I don't personally know anyone who was affected, so I sent money to the Tellez family. Glad to hrlp a little bit.

Hi, Jessica. Thanks for all you do. However, this is not the time to talk about progress in renewable energy. The climate of the planet of the last 125,000 years is disassembling right before our eyes. 2024 is the hottest year on record in both the atmosphere and the ocean; the average temperature exceeded the Paris target of 1.5C and reporters keep using superlatives like "unprecedented" & "first-ever" so often they are meaningless. AND, scientists say they don't know why these extreme weather events are happening. It is time to scream about climate change and global heating. It is an emergency happening now.

thank you for your response.

With all due respect I disagree. If people have no hope they will give up. Obviously we’re in a crisis. But hope is required to keep going.

I am taking a four-week Zoom course on nonviolence. The book we are using is Nonviolence Daily, 365 Days of Inspiration from Gandhi, by Michael N. Nagler and Stephanie N. Van Hook. You can get it from the Meta Center for Nonviolence, headquartered in Petaluma, CA. It isn't expensive and arrives promptly. It has lots of creative ideas about countering the kind of regime we are about to encounter.

I think we need to get encouragement from progress being made so people will not think that the fight is hopeless and give up before even trying. But we also have to communicate the great urgency of this situation! People have to start acting more responsibly NOW. Travel less, buy fewer things, when you really need something buy it locally instead of online, eat more organic regeneratively grown food, stop all use of herbicides and pesticides except in extraordinary situations, plant native plants in yards and along roadways, and most importantly plan to only have two or fewer children, and vote in people at all levels of government that are dedicated to stopping global warning. That's just a short list There are so many ways each individual can act more environmentally responsible starting immediately.

Thanks for the definition of fear, and I'm glad you're safe. I heard that DT is blaming Newsom for the fires in California and that his lie is going international. How can we stop this kind of nonsense and help our Governor out? One day at a time.

We just keep repeating the truth first, then state what trump is falsely saying, then repeat the truth.

I thought one of the strategies for countering lies was NOT to repeat the lie, but to talk only about the truth, and repeat that in as many ways as you can talk about it. Repeating the lie further imbeds it in non-thinkers brains!

I am so sorry for the loss your friends are suffering. As a Washingtonian I was particularly interested to learn more the community of Altadena and so saddened to hear how badly they have been impacted by the fire. I will make donations as I am able, and will also share it with members of our SURJ team to encourage them to do the same if they are able. I contacted my senators. Neither is listed as supporting the bill, which is a good thing, but hoping they will use their influence. I am so grateful for your continued activism inspiring us all to keep on keeping on when it seems easier to give up. onward!

In my town, the police force is too small. They are already trying desperately to recruit both officers and detention officers. Who will be able to go where they are really needed if this immigration nonsense happens? Crime will increase, not decrease

I'm about to take the dog for a walk to clear my head from news, commentary, and more information. I will go nuts if I try to take everything in, and then I will be dysfunctional. My goal for this year is to find what I can do and do it well. Maybe walking the dog will give me some clarity. I hope so. Meanwhile, Happy Friday to you all.

Sad to see some of the Congressmen we worked so hard to get into office in CA voted for H.R. 29 (Laken). Fortunately, Jared Huffman (my congressman) did not and I called his office to thank him for opposing it.

I truly appreciate your efforts in keeping us up to date on the current important legislature and for the most part make my daily calls to the senators and reps.

Thanks for sharing the families on go fund me, I did make a couple of donations.
