I am a lifelong Democrat who was raised in a large republican family. My father passed away two decades ago, but I know he never, ever would have voted for the felon. My mom and brothers feel they are somehow carrying on his legacy by voting republican. My goal each election has always been to register one Democrat to cancel out the vote of each of my republican family members. I have several somewhat hidden disabilities, and I’m also very shy with strangers. I have been very outspoken this election, but was afraid my disabilities would keep me from taking a more active role, though I have been cheering you all on and sending everyone I can your way.
A couple weeks ago, my mom and brothers unfurled a felon banner at her house. Last straw. I signed up to write postcards, and have been furiously doing so every minute I am able. New goal: 100 Democratic voters per republican family member. Found out the brothers attended a felon rally. New goal: 200 voters. As I said, I have some restrictive issues, but have been SO inspired by what you all are doing here that I have recruited nieces, nephews, restaurant owners, neighbors, and friends. We are in a very liberal part of CA, so I am focusing all my efforts in swing areas, where they will make a difference. I am exhausted, but this weekend my gal cronies and I are embarking on the Public Restroom Post-it Slapping Tour. Thank you SO MUCH for inspiring me to get going!
I will be canvassing for Sherrod Brown on Saturday here in Cincinnati. I have focused my efforts on this because I know that when Harris wins, she'll need a blue senate and Brown is just an amazing person to have for a senator and I want to keep him in that job (I won't mention my other senator, except to say he lusts after furniture and can't order a donut without looking awkward)!
Here’s my letter to the Washington Post( for not endorsing Kamala Harris), in case anyone wants to copy and send:
Hello
I have been a subscriber to the Washington Post for decades. I just learned the Post will not be endorsing a presidential candidate in this upcoming election.
How dare you shed your responsibility to uphold an American free press, by strongly stating your support for the only candidate that supports the Constitution and all the freedoms we have in our country; Kamala Harris. By not calling out Trump for the fascist that he clearly is, you are, by default, supporting his tyrannical policies.
I will be canceling my subscription unless you as a newspaper, change course, immediately. This is no longer the brilliant newspaper that uncovered the Watergate travesty.
I cancelled today. Enough is enough! I will be sending an email to Alyssa Rosenberg too. I am hoping some of their reporters, editors and folks on the editorial page will resign. I understand the newsroom was aghast!
The body of the letter I sent to WaPo: Upon learning that the Washington Post is not endorsing a candidate for President this year, I have canceled my subscription. I find this lack of guts to be insupportable. The choice between good and evil (and I don't feel I'm exaggerating) is clear in this election. Placing corporate interest above the good of the people is venal and a clear representation of where your paper's true values lie. In light of this, I cannot trust your journalism to be objective.
Understand the meaning of this early Halloween poll!
Nate Cohn definitely did his Halloween marketing job for senior Times management. He frightened/discouraged liberals and gave Trump latitude to claim voter fraud if he doesn't win. (Which he won't).
The Times poll has overweighted GOP respondents all year, underweights liberal Dems and ignores first time voters. The result is a +4 to 5% bias in favor of Trump. We should read this poll as 52% Kamala to 48% Trump. And stay focused on GOTV. Voters win elections not polls.
Cacelled my WaPo subscription, then sent email to Matt Murray, the executive editor, and told him to tell Jeff Bezos I'm cancelling my Amazon Prime next.
I've not ordered more than 5 items from Amazon since Covid was cooling late spring 2022. I decided a long time ago Bezos has enough money and enough of my money and I'd rather not enrich him. So I search online for what I'm looking for and find the actual company who's made it and order from there. You can do it. I've done it for several years. Principle is more important than a few dollars here and there.
I've been boycotting Amazon for years. It's hard for a month or so and then you're like "why was I ever using them?" I agree it's really the only way to go.
* Walked the last of my Vote Forward letters to the post office.
* Double checked I had already canceled LA Times and WaPo, wrote a Letter to the Editor to each complaining about their Harris endorsement vetos, and subscribed to The Guardian and Philadelphia Inquirer.
* Canvassing tomorrow in Lancaster, CA for George Whitesides for CA-27 (one of the important competitive seats on the line to win the House, and his incumbent opponent MAGA Mike Garcia refuses to commit to certifying the election if Harris wins).
Spent two afternoons this week at Boise State University encouraging students to take advantage of the on-campus early voting location, and on Saturday I'll be phoning into PA to help cure ballots. Good to see: while driving through Boise yesterday, at no less than three major intersections we saw folks waving Harris/Walz signs, jumping up and down, and waving at cars. We saw none of the same on the other side -- and this is IDAHO, people!
I'm finishing my Vote Forward letters today and tomorrow. I'm determined to get to 1,000 (60 to go). The volunteering for VF has surged in the last few weeks, and we're now at over 9 million letters promised. Once done, I'll start phone banking in swing states. I've done it every election since 2016 in the last two weeks. I've donated so much money, I don't know how I'll pay my property taxes. I think they'll have to go on the card. :-(
You get my last donation this year. Just wanted you to know I generally read people's Substacks for free for a long time and don't usually pay for a subscription, but I'm stunned by the amount of effort you put in for everyone on the side of truth, no matter their political stripes. Way more than a few cool Instagram videos!
I'm doing three canvasses this weekend in North Carolina: 2 GOTV and one persuasion. Been poll greeting during the week and have seen quite a few first time voters! I feel it is difficult to judge early voting numbers for this state because many voters I've talked to are going back to their tradition of voting election day, and most people here register as Unaffiliated rather than Dem or Rep.
This weekend I will both be curing ballots in the state of MI AND making a donation AGAIN to www.movement.vote (movement voter project) which gives money directly to grassroots organizations on the ground in swing states; neighbors communicating with neighbors about what matters most to them. Please check them out and donate if you can!
Movement Voter Project is amazing and yes, they get people who look like the people they are canvassing (instead of me a middle-aged white woman talking to Hispanic voters) to talk to hard to reach voters. We should all give them money. (And, I'll see be talking to those voters but ... )
I'm so thrilled you're coming to Philadelphia! Since Sept. 3, I've been volunteering at the Germantown office at 400 W. Chelten Ave. (Stop by and see us!) Tomorrow we are expecting a couple of bus loads of canvassers from out of state. The energy is high and unstoppable. Thank you for being a positive life raft in what feels like a sea of negativity and worry! I'm sick of the worrying! We're gonna win this! You're a badass ;-)
Blue CD2 in NM launched a last minute GOTV action and I just finished mailing the 60 beautiful postcards I wrote on cards designed by Native artists, aimed at Native tribal voters. I will email Jessica directly with a photo so she can show you what they look like if interested! Solidarity all!!!!

THANK YOU! How amazing you are. A true HERO.
LOVE IT!

That is an incredible place to focus thank yoU!
I revere Sherrod Brown. He's been one of our very best senators.
Agreed!
I will be canvassing in a low-turnout area in Philadelphia this Saturday and Sunday and next Friday through Tuesday!!! 😊
Thank you! Let's try to connect I'll be there from Friday to Monday!
I’d love to connect, Jessica! Where will you be?
That's terrific. PA is the most pivotal state of them all.

I've just canceled my LA Times subscription for the same reason.
Cancelled mine as well, despite some of their good columnists ( Robinson, Ruben, etc).
Brilliant!
I cancelled today. Enough is enough! I will be sending an email to Alyssa Rosenberg too. I am hoping some of their reporters, editors and folks on the editorial page will resign. I understand the newsroom was aghast!

Great letter!
When the heroes of this election season are celebrated, you’ll be right there among Robert, Heather, Joyce, Lucian, Jay, and several others.
Aw.
I’ll add Earl Stephens, Scott Dworkin, Justin Rosario.

We're way ahead of what the polls are showing. I have no doubt.

No-Amazon-Ever is the route to take. But I sometimes use their website for product research.
We value convenience far too much nowadays.
I find if you know the product name (maybe use amazon for that?), you can find the manufacturer very easily. Just search for it.
I've been boycotting Amazon for years. It's hard for a month or so and then you're like "why was I ever using them?" I agree it's really the only way to go.

* Phone banking for Whitesides on Wednesday Oct. 30.
* Start as local Election Worker (AKA poll worker) Nov. 2-5.
* To a Trumper family member who owes me big time for helping him, going to pitch that he repay me by voting for Harris-Walz! (Wish me luck!)
NICE JOB!
Guardian is a great idea as successor to cancelled news subscriptions. Thanks for mentioning it.
Go get 'em, Ellie! He owes you....
You go, Ellie, and good luck !!!🤞
