I take a bit of heart in the fact that the court system is largely holding.

Chesebro just plead guilty, following Powell's guilty plea Thursday. The NY civil fraud case has been catastrophically bad for Trump.

An appellate court issued a ruling unfavorable to Trump's cases in terms of approving multiple ways to demonstrate "corrupt intent".

A court held that Alex Jones cannot hide behind bankruptcy protections to avoid a judgment to Sandy Hook parents.

I agree. Lots of good rulings, although some bad ones, too, but not related to Trump, at least. We must take our wins where we can find them.

I take some comfort in seeing Poland push back from its extremist death-spiral, Spain seems poised to do the same.

2 American hostages were released by Hamas...I'm so hoping this will lead (at the very least) to a pause in shelling to allow humanitarian aid from Egypt.

I can't take hearing about the bad ones. 😞😞😞

Better to focus on the wins anyway. There's nothing we can do about bad court rulings except let them play out in the appeals process and keep working to elect Dems and expand the Supreme Court!

About compassion and grace and our common humanity, a friend shared a social media post with me. I share it here with the hope that we can, including me high on the list, maybe consider it. A week ago, I was all in to do whatever it takes to stop the madness. It saddens me but it’s true.

As a wise teacher reminds me, take what’s useful, and leave the rest …

“We lay down our arms

So that we can reach our arms

Out to one another.

We seek harm to none, and

harmony for all ...

Victorious, not because we will

never again know defeat,

But because we will never again sow

division.”

It's telling that five republicans can't find a spine and put country over party and vote for Jeffries.

Isn't it, though?

Jessica, you brought me news I have been waiting to hear. I’m traveling, and your post coincides with the sun breaking through an overcast sky. Thank you and thank goodness! ❤️🤍💙

The good new is the Republicans held a secret vote; voted against Jordan 112-86 to take away his nomination. Not a candidate anymore!😂

Yup. Buh-bye for real this time!

What a beautiful newsletter. Thank you. I'm working with Seniors Taking Action and we have a Zoom speaker series on Wednesdays that you once spoke to. I've been asked to see if there are speakers people representing groups in California who might be interested in sharing what they do with us. Do you know of anyone who might be interested in educating us about what they do? In addition to you, we have also had Robert Hubble and Laura Brill speak to our group. I'd appreciate any recommendations you might have.

And since it's Friday, here's another button I found in the Northern Sun catalog that reads: Humankind. Be Both.❤️

I love what you call "abbreviated!" Jessica, thank you for your openness and sincerity and your call for love. You just led me to realize something. "God is love is God is Source is Non-physical is Universe is Allah is Buddha is Yaweh. We don't have to call love by some religious name to call on its energy. Right now. Thank you!

Meanwhile my congressman: Ohio GOP Rep Warren Davidson says the death threats will continue for as long as Republican members of Congress oppose Jim Jordan for speaker

Expand full comment

Just unbelievable.

Jim Jordan is officially out! The conference voted that his bid should end and it has. The threats didn’t work. They backfired-that’s a good thing. Hopefully the backbone we’ve seen will stay around.

Yep. I'm hearing they will have their next vote on Tuesday AM. Tom Emmer has now thrown his hat into the race. We'll see how that goes.

Jordan will bluff and feint, like McCarthy did last week-and end up not being elected Speaker, as McCarthy wasn't, last week. I am in a warm place-physically and emotionally: Manila, and among friends. Here in the Philippines, the government is taking no chances with terrorism. I was screened twice, at the small regional airport from which I flew back here on Wednesday. So was the Chinese gentleman behind me. So, this morning, were four Pakistani men who flew back from Cebu, in the central part of this country. We each can report being treated with high courtesy and respect, but the bottom line is this nation is serious about its territorial integrity and maintaining the peace.

Anybody else finding their Reps contact page unavailable? Or their web page blank and inaccessible? That's all I got trying to email Dave Joyce of Ohio just now. Tried a couple times, and on different browsers; same result.

Jess, do you have a Patreon page? Got something in my email that didn't seem to ring true.

I do. What did you get? I did send a post to my Patreon subscribers last night...

Was my note weird in some way? LOL

The world is just weird right now! I didn't remember ever signing up for it and thought it unlikely that you would offer something and have only 134 followers and it just tickled my anxiety. Sorry to bother you with it - just feel protective of you. You are the source of optimism and the powerful voice of activism for so many of us!

Yeah those are my Patreon supporters. They are mostly non-newsletter subscribers who want to suppport my activism, or folks who want to give a bit more.
