To give readers some context for the critical reason democracy in the US matters for resolving the current crisis in the Middle East, I've attached a legal memo that explains why Hamas's must be viewed is a criminal entitiy under international law. This memo has been sigend by more than 100 distinguished legal scholars in the US and EU. The War Crimes Act, Crimes against Humanity laws and Genocide laws were all used in persuing justice against the Nazis and other fascists after WW II. Without a strong democracy in the US these laws would not exist. See the memo below.
You inspired me to send the following message to my Congressman, turncoat Jeff Van Drew. I hope my sarcasm isn't dripping too much.
Dear Congressman Van Drew,
I am a Democrat in your district. I know you were once a Democrat yourself, and I hope that you still have some good feelings for the rest of us and a good relationship with many of your colleagues now on the other side of the aisle.
The House is completely dysfunctional, and has been, for the most part, since January. That fact is not lost on anyone. Kevin McCarthy, who gave away much of the store to win the Speakership, was so severely handicapped by his concessions that he could barely function. Worse, when things went bad for him, he blamed everyone but himself, and when people tried to help him, he stabbed them in the back.
Now, with the Speaker position vacated, it appears that Jim Jordan, the least principled and least qualified person in the House, is within a whisker of being elected to the position. Please, please, please, don't let that happen! Nothing of consequence or value to your constituents will occur under a Jordan speakership. We need a Speaker, not a Foghorn!
