As a long-time pro-immigration activist it is my experience that racism in America across all class and ethnic strata, immigrants from the Southern hemisphere and indigenous folks are targeted and hated, so that Democrats and republicans alike hate immigrants. Everybody uses immigrants to step on in order to lift up themselves. What I see now is a burgeoning is the substrate of hate, racism and targeting is the transgender community.

Team trump is user across social platforms to monitor anti trump anti right wing comments. People who are antagonist are going to be marked and risk punishment as is already the case with hispanics poor democrats etc. Plus doge data base of all Americans. Yet another horror show.

Thanks for having Vanessa on! I am an older white woman in Southern California and didn’t understand the nuances of why Latinos voted for Trump- and it was enlightening to hear the reasons and issues going forward. My husband and I plan on soon joining the protests at our local Federal Courthouse where ICE agents are grabbing people after hearings- I read a great in-depth article by a local independent news source about what is happening just a few miles from my house!(www.daylightsandiego.org). Agree with you Jess, we all need to step up!

ICE just came to Charlotte this past weekend. I went to a protest Saturday morning at a Home Depot, since HD is cooperating with ICE/CBP. I found out when I got there that they had just conducted a raid there. The first half of the photos in this article were taken at that Home Depot and includes a few photos of our protest.

There was a huge impromptu protest march uptown yesterday afternoon and I heard from a friend that lives near uptown that their regularly scheduled pop-up this afternoon had over 100 people where they usually get 30 - 35.

People are definitely up in arms!!

I agree 💯percent. I'm an older white woman in NC.

Although I am still having a hard time getting my head around why ANYONE (but especially Latinos) took him at his word that he would only deport criminals after we all saw the cruel family separation policy during Trump 1.0. And there is that disgusting statement by Trump before he even became president that Mexicans were rapists, gang members, and drug dealers. And his total Muslim ban. Trump hates immigrants. Full Stop.

I think Maya Angelou had it right when she said 'When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.' All the women I know who have been grassroots activits since the first Women's March in Jan 2017 certainly did! Why couldn't the rest of America?

Also appropriate: "Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice shame on me.

I believe that Kamala's platform was overshadowed by her gender. bottom line...many in this country still have no confidence in women leaders and did not vote for her because of that.

Thank you for this. And it is really a disgrace that the democratic establishment do not speek out loud against the cruelty inflicted on human beings on American soil. They think it will not bring them votes, but You see people everywhere defending other human beings in their communities. People do not only care about affordability. Most people do not want to live or raise kids in a sadistic society. And they do not want their leaders complicit. And the fact that they only stand up for things consultants think can make them win, make them look weak . Beczuse people like leaders whit a vision of a better society, not leaders who only defend the status quo

Jess, you asked for elaboration at just the right point in the conversation about why so many Latinos voted for Trump in 2024; thank you!

As a Latina, I am so disappointed by Latino voters. Ms. Cardenas mentioned that the Biden administration giving work permits to newly arrived immigrants, made long term immigrants mad, it was too easy for them. Only Latinos would be unhappy at a newly arrived immigrant's good fortune. I think racism also played a part in the Democrat's loss. Latinos can be racist. There is no outcry when Jamaicans, or Afro-Cubans are deported. Also, we have Democracy and we have a capitalist open market system. They are 2 different entities. If you want prices to go down do not buy overpriced goods. When government's set prices or adjust the market, that is Socialism. I support Socialism, but most Latinos do not.
