Thank you for this information! I am so tired of receiving texts and email from every candidate in the US just because I donated to 1 that I wanted to help. I have now blocked all of them.
Thank you, Jessica!!!! Perfect timing. I, too, am so overwhelmed with trying to pick and support so many worthy campaigns with limited resources. I had considered OATH but didn’t fully understood how they operated. This interview clinched the deal. I’m putting my available support $s with them and a few other candidates in my district/state races. I ESPECIALLY like that I will not be inundated with emails and texts when making a contribution!
Focus for Democracy (F4D) does a rigorous analysis of races and projects that have proven potential AND are underfunded, where your donations through Oath can have even greater impact.
Ok. This is not exactly what you’re working on, which is great, one thing that is very annoying is answering questions on policy questionnaire and it will only be counted if you donate. 😖
As the democratic candidate running for HD23 in Tulsa Oklahoma, it discouraging to be left out of the funding loop. We're working just as hard as candidates in other states. It's demoralizing and aggravating when we are inundated with the messaging "we desperately need your money, send it to us where it'll do some good". I tell everyone I talk to; DO NOT send your money out of state, DO NOT give it to the state party, if your county party is up to snuff, maybe give them some money, BUT GIVE EVERY CENT YOU CAN TO YOUR LOCAL CANDIDATES!
Catherine, this may not make the most sense if your local candidates already have tons of money and/or represent vividly blue districts. I’m in such a district (one of the bluest) and want to help in other districts and states where the need is greater and there’s a real potential to flip a red seat to a blue one. In addition we know that governors and courts in any state can have an impact on the entire country, so I have an interest in those elections, even when they’re not in my own state. I guess I don’t really understand your objection.
Andrea, I'm a blue dot in Tulsa Oklahoma. The republicans have made Oklahoma "the skid mark in America's underwear". I completely agree with your comment. If you live in a solidly blue district/state definitely send your money to red states with blue candidates trying to break the strangle hold on it's governance. Down ballot candidates, that the deep pocket donors wouldn't even consider, are desperately needing funding.
WOW! I have been wanting to give small dollar amounts to people who will win, but I've been resisting the hundreds of emails that have been telling me the sky is falling. You've given me a way to cut through the crap.
I checked out Oath and I found it promoting our establishment democrat candidate from NH who takes boat loads from AIPAC (Chris Pappas) and did not find our fantastic, progressive candidate Karishma Manzur. Oath was responsive in addressing my questions and let me know that candidates not found in their search, have to be recommended for inclusion. I did that and about a week later, I am still not finding her. I am finding this frustrating! Our NH Democratic party seems to be systematically edging out the progressive candidates. I'd like to see more support for the progressives! I bet that those candidates without great name recognition are all in this position and I wonder if something can be done about it. Other than this, I think Oath is a great idea!
Thank you Jessica! This brilliant interview with Brian helped me so much. So many candidates and organizations, along with the endless pleas for support was paralyzing me with indecision. I had looked at Oath but did not fully understand the platform. This interview sealed the deal for me. You asked all the pertinent questions and your support of people and organizations carries weight with me. I really like the OATH model and Brian’s authenticity and enthusiasm shone through and true. Many thanks for all you do. You are a gem!
No way these are the most critically underfunded. Mostly these are very well funded marquee campaigns. Just one example from Politico today:
SPEAKING OF CAMPAIGN SPENDING: Wisconsin Democrat Rebecca Cooke’s congressional campaign is reserving $3 million in broadcast ads for the fall, Playbook’s Eli Okun scoops. The spots will go up in the La Crosse and Wausau media markets between August and November.

Yes! The texts are crazy making. Whhhhhy did that become the fundraising strategy for evvveryone?
This is huge because of Oath not selling or sharing our data!!! So happy to have this info!!
I was just wondering about how to make the most impact with my money. This is terrific.
It really is!

Same here!! I’ve donated to Oath before but now I am more excited and confident in sending my money there!

I watched yesterday and will be sharing this. It was EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for. Can’t thank you enough!

The emails are too much. I can’t with all of these all caps crisis style emails!

How do you support yourself when you. Take no money from the donation?
As with every fundraising website I've ever seen, donors can add a tip if they want to with their donations.
