I think ICE should be sent to Texas to help with the search for missing persons. This would be them doing something the American people would favor and if they can send troops into cities, they can send ICE in to search where it's really needed.

And at a yearly salary of $140,000 ICE agents should also be placed to put out West coast fires and stand ready for any such hazardous duty in the national interest . . .

Yes, but I figure one ask is a start. Since they messed up NOAA and FEMA it's the least they can do. Bet many of these tough guys couldn't stomach the work that needs to be done in Texas. There's no reason to rout out the people they are being cruel to.

Absolutely and it would make their mother’s proud!

I figured out why ICE agents are wearing masks and not giving their names… They know their Mom’s and Grandmother’s would be ashamed of them!

Wendy, brilliant idea! We need to make it a meme, With humor, if possible, because that breaks defenses down faster. They start out laughing and then start thinking. This is not something to start at the top with: Post on every social media platform you can think of, and post it to the various resistance organizations. I will make a sign for our next protest about it.

I don't have computer skills to make a Meme but if you can make one we can try to make it go viral. Or maybe someone reading this does or knows someone.

A meme doesn't have to be any one thing. The meme part is the message, but it can be anything: words, pictures, a poster, whatever, as long as the point is made, it's part of the "meme". Here's a dictionary definition: "a humorous image, video, piece of text, etc., that is copied (often with slight variations) and spread rapidly by Internet users."

We need to apply pressure on Etsy to remove all merchandise related to Alligator Alcatraz.

I am an avid postcard writer and have purchased postcards, rubber stamps, and recently yard signs to use as protest signs from various Etsy shops because (naturally) I am boycotting Amazon. I also provide info to people who want to know where I got a particular design or who I can recommend besides Amazon.

I have recently reached out to the sellers from whom I have made multiple purchases to tell them I am currently boycotting Etsy and to ask them to put pressure on Etsy to stop carrying "Alligator Alcatraz" merchandise. I also shared Jessica's note (from either Friday or yesterday) about the appalling conditions there. I don't know how many of these vendors have their own websites or are wholely dependent on Etsy and Amazon for sales.

Realistically I don't have a need to purchase more supplies in the near future, but I did just get asked about a good place to buy postcards besides Amazon.

I know quite a few people who say that they are already boycotting Etsy just like they boycott Amazon or Target. But I do think it is more effective in this situation to let vendors (who aren't selling any vile merchandise) know why you are no longer purchasing from them, rather than ghosting them. This allows them to tell Etsy, "I have customers telling me they are boycotting this platform because you haven't pushed back on Alligator Alcatraz merchandise". They are only using Etsy as a store front and a payment platform and have no control over other sellers.

Obviously, anyone monetizing this cruetly deserves to lose money.

Etsy itself is like a big open market place with lots of independent venders, most of whom do not sell those kinds of things. I'd hate to punish all the small makers who are just trying to earn a living. So I'd suggest narrowing your goal to boycotting just those vendors who sell that kind of product. I think it would be more effective than targeting Etsy as a whole.

I didn't anticipate buying anything from Etsy in the near future myself - I usually buy postcards in bulk and I am currently well stocked. (Also, I have plenty of rubber stamps and yard signs. So a boycott by me is actually a moot point. But I have gotten a huge pushback from people when they ask where did you get that and I say Etsy. So my messages to the vendors was more "heads up" and to give them some ammunition with the platform.

Here's the response I got from one of the vendors I contacted:

"Thank you for your kind message. I do already sell my stamp designs on my own website. But, I really appreciate your insight on this. I am also very disturbed with etsy's reticence to do something about the Alligator Alcatraz merch. I do participate in seller's groups who are protesting it as well. We're living in very disturbing times! I'm grateful to know so many good people are voting with their wallets! I do as well."

Thanks for sharing this, Cheryl. I appreciate having the context from inside. Because I am lucky enough to live in a place with lots of small craftspeople, I buy locally (or make it myself). But two of my daughters used to sell their creations on Etsy, The internal politics can be interesting. I am glad to know that sellers are pushing back on this: they have on other matters and it worked. I hope this does as well.

Indeed, we are living in disturbing times. I don't postcard- because of a hand condition, writing is difficult for me. But I do other things to contribute to the resistance. All of us doing what we can do adds up, and we're seeing a difference.

Sounds like she is in denial. The Nazis had both concentration camps and death camps. They were different things. US has had concentration camps before: notably many indigenous people herded together into small encampments (sometimes literally corralled) or restricted on reservations a fraction of their original holdings, too small or too barren to support themselves. And of course the concentration camps into which people of Japanese descent (including citizens) were placed during WW2. All of this is shameful. Perhaps your sister is trying to avoid facing her own sense of shame.

Good luck. I hope it works out in time.

It is a concentration camp using DeSantis’ SS….

“That’s because Gov. Ron DeSantis has given the contractors hired to run the Everglades detention center permission to ignore state law and staff it with contractor-employed correctional officers who haven’t been fingerprinted, passed a physical, or cleared a background check.”
