There is a new verb in the age of Trump. "Bombast" or "To Bombast". It's the dialect DJT speaks. He decidedly doesn't speak in a version of English any of us can understand. When Trump speaks he "Bombasts", making hyperbolic exaggerations, mostly lies and fantasies intended to create a strong emotional effect, usually hate or fear. The next time you read one of his crazy tweets or hear his vengeful comments to the press, just think..ohhh. The lunatic is "Bombasting". Ignore it. Don't succumb to "Trump Derangement Syndrome. No real POTUS speaks that way. Just go out and find a favorite candidate and few more Democratic votes for the midterms.
ORBAN LOST BIGLY!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Gosh, you think JD helped?😁 I just wanted to add to the wonderful news that you posted, Jess. The times…they are a’changing!
You didn’t need to wait. I saw your great video where you were all smiles. I was too! So much great news that you shared. I am just concerned about our governor’s race but have kinda decided to back Becerra because he has state and federal experience PLUS, he would be the first ever Hispanic/Latino governor in CA if he wins!
Even the holy Name of God, the God of life, is being dragged into discourses of death.”
“To world leaders, we cry out: stop! It is time for peace! Sit at the table of dialogue and mediation – not at the table where rearmament is planned and deadly actions are decided.”
“Enough of the idolatry of self and money! Enough of the display of power! Enough of war! True strength is shown in serving life,”
Jumping for joy! Hungary's Orban is out and his successor held up the peace sign and namaste gesture for the cameras after he submitted his own ballot!!!
"Everything is awful AND some great things are still coming to pass." Perhaps it would be better for our collective mental health if we took the position that everything is going great except for this one weirdo in Washington.
I’ll have to try this. Many days, most if I’m honest, I feel like I’m drowning. I was thinking last night that I ought to take comfort in the fact that I have millions of other people right along with me who feel the same way. We are all connected.
We are, and our strength is in that connection. As long as we remember that we may take occasional steps in a direction that we'd rather not go, but we will overcome.
Things are changing for the good because of your work, our No Kings protests and 1000s of volunteers. AND Orban lost today! Hungarian Parliament is mostly liberal now! 😁👍👏👏👏💙💙💙💙💙
I was in my teens during the Vietnam War. Watching the clip, when Springsteen got to that last line of his intro "Peace over..." and shouted out WAR as the band started playing - I began to sing along, breaking into tears as I did, especially as I listened to the crowd and saw their faces as the camera panned. It's like more and more people are waking up and beginning to understand what is at stake. A BIG thankyou to Jess and to all the people commenting here and helping to get the word out.
I was at the great Springsteen show on Tuesday. It was basically an epic political rally with (great) music! So great that I had to go back Thursday with my daughter who missed it Tuesday because she was ill. If you live in places he's heading, go! It will bring you joy and the will to continue the fight.
I always look forward to your “good things of the week” column— gives me a lift from the hard news and gives me hope AND I can tell discouraged or despairing people I meet to hold on cuz there ARE positive things to hold up! Thank you!!🙏🏼
As always, great news!! And I had not heard most of it from any other source (but then I really don't see too many other sources...). I love the LGBTQ news...while this impacts relatively few people on a day to day basis it impacts all of our moral standings and lets the GOP know the majority of Americans truly do love one another, regardless of race, color or sexual orientation. I am not a Catholic, but I love the Pope!!! I think perhaps in the overall scheme of things, the news items about renewable energy both in the US and abroad is maybe the most important. This, at least in the US is being done voluntarily, not at the instruction of the government (indeed the GOP is doing all it can to make us NOT use renewables) and India working on greatly increasing their use of solar energy is sort of the other end of the spectrum...sounds like the government is leading the way. I find it ironic that these things are happening while the US is at war to get Iran's oil. The winners in that war are going to be those nations moving more rapidly to renewables, and at some point, I think all nations except the US will be using more renewables than fossil fuels, and once that happens the demise of the oil industry will happen relatively quickly I think (of course I am not a scientist or, well, any one that really know much about this stuff...). Well, maybe not the demise but I think it sure will no longer be worth fighting a war over.
⬆️".... India working on greatly increasing their use of solar energy is sort of the other end of the spectrum...sounds like the government is leading the way."
I don't think many people in the US realize how a developing country without adequate infrastructure (which definitely applies to much of India) can leapfrog over far more developed countries.
I worked for a multi-national manufacturing company from the early '80s to the early '00s. In the mid 1990's I travelled to China for about 3.5 weeks doing technical seminars for our customers. This included visiting cities that were very developed including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou as well as cities in the interior of China that were behind by decades. (This was before the Three River Gorges project).
To give you some perspective on the contrast - In Shanghai there was no direction you could turn where you wouldn't see several large construction cranes building modern high rises. A few days later, we stayed at a hotel in the interior where the building next door was being demolished by workers with pick axes and wheelbarrows. When the wheelbarrow was full, they tipped the contents over the side of the building. I kid you not.
The thing that surprised me most during my visit was the number of people walking around Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou with the most advanced cell phones that were just starting to penetrate the US markets. When I remarked on this to the agents who were doing our translation, they told me that there was something like a 24-month wait to get a land-line phone installed in that city. But if you had the money, you go could go to a phone store and walk out with a fully-functioning mobile phone in an hour or less!
This is quite likely the same thing that is happening in India. Many people do not have reliable electricity (if they have it at all in a more rural area). But if you can afford a balcony solar device with adequate battery storage, you can have reliable power 24/7.
What wonderful insight! Thanks so much for sharing. And of course like so many things, when you say it outloud it makes so much sense....too bad we don't have a congress (I could put a period after just that....too bad we don't have a congress is pretty much a complete sentence now) that is at all interested in progress or learning from others....they just want to go back to, well I don't know how far back they want to go.

I agree 💯percent.
I am represented by 3 GOP members - spineless Tom Tillis (although now that he's on the way out he seems to be willing to push back a bit), MAGA Senator Ted Budd and MAGA Rep Tim Moore (who as the Speaker of the NC House re-gerrymandered the NC US House Districts in 2023 to give himself a guaranteed US House seat 😡).

This writer LOVES the new verb and, if I have your permission, will use it often.
Agree!
Wow, what a list. Thank you.
You’re very welcome!

I do my best. Thanks Aimee!
PS I also see how widely your efforts are being recognized and quoted...aka... HCR just the other day.
Thank you that was a big one for me. Totally stunned!

Thank you so much, Madeline! This is the first I saw of it (even though I've been checking on and off since this morning)! Wildly awesome!

I had to laugh; I think Orban conceded about half an hour after you posted this!
Go Hungary!!
He did. I should have waited!!
