OMG I meant to put that in there and I totally forgot. Yes yes! I donβt know how I did that I had it and then I mustβve somehow forgotten to paste lol
Youβve brightened my day with this encouraging news. Iβm my husbandβs caregiver and often feel overwhelmed. I follow politics b/c I think itβs important to know what is happening and what I can do to help. I greatly appreciate good news!! Thanks
AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!! I read all the good news with tears in my eyes, especially watching the students marching against Trump. Wow! Fantastic. Thank you, Jess. Thanks to everyone who is standing up to Trump!!
Much needed news Jessβ- it helps to energize me (and us I imagine). Thank you for your hard work β recent engagement with congresspersons in DC and providing thoughtful ways for us to engage in the process of fighting fascism and fostering positive movement. Writing from beautiful, peaceful, and creative Portland, OR .
I so appreciate all the work you do and give us to do - and I love love love your Sunday EXTRA EXTRA! offerings - we need them, need to know what we do matters. Thank you!!!
Jessica, you are an indefatigable shining light for our country and for our resistance movement. Please take good care of yourself, and thank you thank you thank you for your hard work on our behalf!
So inspiring. I love your Sunday newsletters! My husband and I both had nightmares all night on Halloween, not because of ghosts and goblins, but because of the horrendous ICE attacks on my beloved community of Evanston, IL (where Northwestern University is located just north of the city of Chicago) on the afternoon of Halloween. These included attacking and snapping up U.S. citizens who were entirely innocent of any wrongdoing at all...one woman had bumped into an ICE vehicle accidentally when it slammed on its brakes suddenly on a sidestreet in Evanston...they stuck a gun in her face, grabbed her out of her car, threw her on the sidewalk so violently that her shoe flew off. When she asked if she could retrieve her shoe, an officer threw it farther down the street. They took her to an FBI facility somewhere in the city, where she was promptly released with no charges, as she had done absolutely nothing wrong. This is what our govt is doing to us now. No one is safe.
What made my heart sing, though, was seeing video of all the neighbors who thronged the street where the ICE officers were, yelling at them, filming them, and doing what they could to protect their neighbors. I'm so proud of everyone here.
Yet that night, my dreams reminded me of the dreams I used to have as a young Jewish girl back in the 50s of the Nazis coming to get me...horrifying nightmares. We must find a way to stop this insanity.
In the meantime, thank you so much for all you do to inspire all of us and keep us going!
Nancy, I had the same fears and terrible dreams about the Nazis coming for me when I was little - as a child born here, to a family who escaped that terror in Europe (although other family members were murdered and didn't make it out). I'm now so horrified at what these evil monsters are doing to people under this madman's authority. My hope and strong belief is that we will prevail, and that the current regime will be made to answer for their crimes.
As I watched these obscenities, from a distance, with my own country (Canada) threatened by that turd, I had thought that only armed resistance could stop horrors like ICE.
This thread has been so assuring, I'm in tears in front of my keyboard.
Thank you all, all you commenters, all you resisters, all you genuine UNITED STATES CITIZENS, for this.
Stay strong. I now have hope that you will prevail. There are noble souls all among you.
Thanks so much for your support, all the way from Canada! This is indeed a nightmare. We are staying strong and staying in community with others who still care about restoring our country to a true democracy...we miss those days.
Thereβs been a lot of good news this week, it seems the tide is finally turning. We are going to win our country back, because we care deeply about the things that matter. And we care for all.
Important clarification re: the Stanford University lawsuit, I think -- it's the student newspaper at Stanford that's suing, not the university; the two are separate entities (just so it's clear who's actually a bad-ass here).
Thanks for posting that clarification, which I was going to mention, too. I'm happy to see the student journalists' courage in bringing this lawsuit. I'm a Stanford alum. I've been attending webinars featuring Stanford's President. He's taken the stance of not joining in collective lawsuits or in this vital statement, which has over 650 signatures so far: https://www.aacu.org/newsroom/a-call-for-constructive-engagement. In general, he's an excellent leader, but his decision to have the university "fly solo," instead of banding together with other universities, is one that we won't be able to assess until we have the benefit of hindsight. I wrote personally to his office to encourage him to sign. I received an immediate reply from the head of the Alumni Association thanking me for my input. I'm not sure if it had any real impact, but they did say that alumni feedback was vital and valued. I encourage others to write to the current leaders of their beloved educational institutions.
The Netherlands kicked out their right wing Prime Minister for the youngest person to ever lead and he his gay! Yay for the swing of the pendulum!
OMG I meant to put that in there and I totally forgot. Yes yes! I donβt know how I did that I had it and then I mustβve somehow forgotten to paste lol
Yay!
We are winning. This is our country, and we aint about to give up our democracy. EVER.

Thank you for re-establishing my hopes for your country, and the world!
Damn right!

That sounds really hard. Please take care of yourself!
Iβm so overwhelmed.
Hugs, Jacqueline! My mum went through that with my dad when they were both in their eighties. Itβs so rough! Take care honey π₯°
I've been there. Day by day. Also it sounds trite but however you have to do it, take time for yourself.
Been there, hardest job ever. β€οΈ

Bless you.

Good Lord. Terrifying. Iβm so sorry you had to see that. And dream it!
Thanks, Jess!

I so hope so.
Omg Nancy, that is atrocious. I am heartsick for your community. π Those monsters must be stopped, but how? Please stay safe!
Thanks. That seems to be the $64 million question!

History may not exactly repeat itself, but it surely rhymes. So, I've been wondering what rhymes with "guillotine" and "eat cake"?
The entire GOP/MAGA echo chamber is responsible for putting America's poor on the road to starvation.
And the Trump Gatsby Halloween gala? Who could possibly planned that? Maybe a certain "I don't care, do you" first lady??
There's no limit to the amount of slime Trump's meme bombed America with.
Thereβs been a lot of good news this week, it seems the tide is finally turning. We are going to win our country back, because we care deeply about the things that matter. And we care for all.
Bless you, every one of you who stands up, in any way, against this cavernous and ignorant evil.

Makes my heart sing every Sunday. Thank you thank you for your Sunday Good News.
What an uplifting list of things to be grateful for! Thank you, Jess!
Thank you, always! (waving from Whidbey Island, WA.)
