Hi, all, and happy Monday!
Deeeeeep breaths: it’s going to be a wild week.
In spite of all of the “Democrats in disarray” rhetoric, I choose to believe in Nancy Pelosi. I trust she can and will get what’s necessary done. Is my trust misplaced? Perhaps. But it hasn’t been in the past; if Pelosi does fail, it’ll be a novel development.
In the meantime what can we do, but do our part? So let’s do that! It’s critically important we keep the volume turned up, keep making our calls, keep demanding the fullest funded and widest-in-scope recovery package we can get. We’re shooting for the moon, but that’s how you reach the stars. 💫
I know we can do it. We have to.
And our track record is pretty phenomenal, too.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, I’m concerned by Republicans’ attempts to suppress the vote and at their willingness to propagate the Big Lie at the expense of Americans’ faith in our elections. The Senate has to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Otherwise I truly believe we risk losing our democracy. [If Dem add] Democrats should reform the filibuster to get it done.
I also want the Senate to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act right away. Will the Senator commit to voting yes on it? [Push for an answer if you have someone on the phone. If you’re leaving a voicemail add:] I’d like a response in writing, please. My email address is _______.”
Finally, I have been horrified at the way we have treated Haitian asylum seekers at our Southern border. I want the Senator to call on the Biden administration to immediately end expulsion flights, hold CBP accountable for its hideous treatment of migrants, and end Title 42 and any policy that separates families and denies asylum seekers the right to seek protection. Thanks.
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
First, I support HR 1693, the Equal Act, and hope the Congressmember does as well. This is our chance to end the crack and powder cocaine disparity and starting fixing the damage the “war on drugs” did.
Second, I want the House to pass the Build Back Better package before the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, and I want the Build Back Better plan to stay at its full size. Nothing should be cut; I want the Congressmember to support it all.
Finally, I have been horrified at the way we have treated Haitian asylum seekers at our Southern border. I want the Congressmember to call on the Biden administration to immediately end expulsion flights, hold CBP accountable for its hideous treatment of migrants, and end Title 42 and any policy that separates families and denies asylum seekers the right to seek protection. Thanks.

Please post the below on social media— and sign the petition yourself. I’ve been doing a deep dive on just how awful Procter and Gamble is environmentally, and it’s appalling. Public outcry is the only thing that can shift these giant corporations, so in this case a petition can be effective.
By buying palm oil from producers that are expanding aggressively into Indonesia's last rainforests, @ProcterGamble is complicit in destroying Indigenous communities that depend on these forests. Tell the cosmetic giant to stop now. #keepforestsstanding

[to your Democratic reps in the House] [H/T]
The Build Back Better plan could be our last, best chance to pass consequential climate legislation. It must be passed alongside the bipartisan infrastructure package, and it must go big on climate by including:
- Clean Electricity Payment Program that gets us on the path to 100% clean, renewable power by 2035
- Civilian Climate Corps that creates millions of good-paying jobs working on essential climate projects, and with pathways to long-term careers
- The elimination of all subsidies for fossil fuel corporations, including all direct and indirect subsidies
- Polluters Pay Climate Action Fund to make big polluters pay for the damage they've caused, and use the resulting funds to support climate projects
… as well as tax incentives for clean energy and clean vehicles, full funding for electric buses and EV charging stations, and policies to ensure 40% of funds go to frontline communities.
Thank you.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
