Hi, all, and happy Friday!
Wow! Lots going on! 🤯
The great news is that, as expected, the House just passed the Women’s Health Protection Act. The bad news is…the filibuster. But we won’t let the slim odds of this bill’s finding 60 votes in the Senate stop us from trying everything we can to get it there.
As for the Build Back Better Act, it looks like it may see a vote Monday or Tuesday.
Our job until then?
Wall. Of. Noise.
Also? Come phone bank with me on Sunday. More details below. I’m getting worried about Virginia. Help me not be worried!
P.S. Got a very underwhelming 7/11 on the NYT news quiz. Your turn!
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, I’m thrilled to learn that the Women’s Health Protection Act passed in the House. Will the Senator vote to support it when it comes to the Senate floor? I hope so.
Second, I want the Senate to pass the Freedom to Vote Act. [to Democrats] Abolish the filibuster and get this done. Thanks.
Finally, I want the Senator to push to make the child tax credits permanent. These payments are making a huge difference lifting American children out of poverty and they must be continued. The payoffs for our economy down the line make the expenditure well worth it. Thanks.
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
First, I want the Representative to push to make the child tax credit permanent. These payments are making a huge difference lifting American children out of poverty and they must be continued. The payoffs for our economy down the line make the expenditure well worth it.
Second, I want the Congressmember to support the whole 3.5 T Build Back Better plan, and I want him/her to refuse to vote on the bipartisan infrastructure plan until this one passes. We’re in a climate and childcare crisis. We need more funding for folks with disabilities. We need equity. We need paid parental leave. We need immigration reform. We need Medicare expansion and lower drug prices. We need all of it. Please ask the Congressmember to invest in our future in a big way…so we actually *have* one. Thanks.

Please post this on your social:
The good news? The #ChildTaxCredit lifted 3 MILLION kids out of poverty *in its 1st month.* 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The bad news? It expires in December. 😔
Tell Congress: make these payments permanent. Sign the petition at https://tinyurl.com/yayforkids
We can’t afford not to do this. 👶

Get on the Phones! ☎️
Y’all, the Virginia Governor’s race just got DOWNGRADED to a toss-up. GAH! This is not good, and I blame the CA Recall. But now that that’s over (and we crushed it) it’s time for us to pay attention to this race. The GOP member running to flip this seat is pro-life and has said privately that, given his druthers, he’d take Virginia the way of Texas.
WE CANNOT LET THIS HAPPEN.
Fortunately I am back in the phonebank saddle and running/attending three a week! The first one is this Sunday from 2-4PM PDT. We desperately need people to come make these easy, easy calls. Early voting has already started. This is serious.

The Build Back Better Act is our chance to finally stop the government from using our tax dollars to prop up false solutions and a dying industry that has lied to the public for decades and actively destroys the health and safety of our communities.
We need the Build Back Better Act to include language to repeal fossil fuel industry subsidies. Fossil fuel subsidies should be repealed because they prioritize the profits of fossil fuel companies over the health and safety of our communities.
The government currently gives away tens of billions of our taxpayer dollars to the fossil fuel industry every year. That’s money we need to use to upgrade our infrastructure and fight the climate crisis.
As your constituent, I urge you to advocate for the repeal of fossil fuel subsidies in the Build Back Better Act. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
