Hi, all.
I’m too mad to say “Happy Thursday.”
But I’m also weirdly fired up. And I think that’s because for once, it’s not just a few of us who are angry and outraged—but almost everyone. I posted a TikTok yesterday afternoon about how to access medication abortion in Texas and it’s been viewed 357K times already. Social media has EXPLODED, and any young people who were disengaged from politics are realizing that—between this and the climate catastrophes happening everywhere—they no longer have that luxury. As Robert Hubbell said last night, “If you needed any further motivation to become politically engaged, Texas just removed your last excuse.”
Exactly.
So let’s channel our rage, as we so often do, and know that the number of people channeling theirs next to us just grew exponentially.
It’s always nice to be one of a crowd.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, I’m livid about what’s happened in Texas. Congress can and must protect the legal right to abortion for everyone by passing the Women's Health Protection Act. Also, as abortion is a constitutionally protected right, I want the Senator to press President Biden to issue an Executive Order making abortion providers into federal officials operating under the authority of the government and protected by qualified immunity. They would then be shielded from private civil actions like the ones Texas now authorizes. Please pass this along.
[If Dem add:] I’d also like the Senator to co-sponsor S 1141, the Judiciary Act of 2021. If Texas proves anything it’s that we must expand the Supreme Court, now. Abolish the filibuster to do this if necessary. Also to pass voting rights. Our party has all the power. Start acting like it, or we won’t for long. Thanks.
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I’m livid about the Texas abortion ban, and scared about what it means for other states. Has the Congressmember co-cponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act? [Thank or chide as appropriate].
I’d also like them to co-sponsor H.R.2584, the Judiciary Act of 2021. If Texas proves anything it’s that we must expand the Supreme Court, now. Thanks. [If Dem add:] Our party has all the power. Start acting like it. Please.

Postcard Help! 😬
I’ve just been informed that—because my postcard hub has managed to blow through 10,000 Stop the Recall postcards—I am being given a remaining 3000 in the crazy hope that I can find volunteers to get them written and out basically overnight.
If you know anyone in Northeast Los Angeles who might be willing to write, PLEASE send them my way. This is a Herculean effort this late in the game, but I hate to leave them undone.
Chop Wood Give Dollars 💰
If you can, please support one of these abortion funds, which help people afford care and related expenses like childcare and travel. Funds in Texas will now need to budget for lawsuit defense as well as helping more people travel longer distances, while funds in other states will need to step in to backstop them. Here are ways to help.
Donate to specific Texas funds:
Split a single donation among 10 Texas funds at secure.actblue.com/donate/txfunds.
Send your donation to the National Network of Abortion Funds, which will distribute it where the need is greatest, primarily in the South and Midwest.

I’m very, very concerned about the climate emergency. I want you to do everything in your power to fight for an infrastructure package that combats climate change, creates millions of good jobs, advances racial and economic justice, and ushers in the decade of the Green New Deal.
Basements in NY just flooded so badly from torrential rain that 14 people died. South Lake Tahoe is likely going to burn away. Hundreds are dying from extreme heat. Millions are without power. The ocean is literally on fire. The climate crisis is here.
We need bold action now.
Will you commit to fighting for:
Bold investments towards public housing, schools, transit, and renewable energy
A fully funded Civilian Climate Corps
Worker protections as outlined in the PRO Act
An end to fossil fuel subsidies, and
At least 40% of investments to frontline communities?
We need every member of Congress to step up now. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
Jess
