Hi, all, and happy Tuesday.
We ended our nation’s longest war this week. We’re still in a raging pandemic. Our climate is changing ferociously, and fast.
We’re living through major history.
I’ve often wished that I lived in quieter times, and I’m sure you have, too. But no one gets to choose the era they’re born into. They can only decide how they react to the one they’re in. When history dissects this epoch—and it will, at great length—I want to fall into the general category of “good guys.” Or, as Mr. Rogers would call them, “the helpers.”
I suspect you do, too. And that is why we will keep working, chopping wood and carrying water, taking the simple actions, no matter what occurs.
And it is why we will win.
Sending hugs to everyone who is struggling, who is tired, who is longing to live in “ordinary times.” We may not get the quietude we desire, but we can show courage, lead with our actions, and find great satisfaction therein.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, I am calling to urge you to vote YES to pass the Equality Act. It assures LGBTQ+ people [like me / like my child] would be protected from discrimination in housing, education, federal programs, and more. It’s long overdue.
Second, I know the House just passed HR 2467 the PFAS Action Act, which would empower the EPA to clean up PFAS contamination and prevent more from happening. Now it's time for the Senate to act. I want them to pass the PFAS Action Act and help make a safer, cleaner world for us, our children and our children's children. Thanks! [H/T]
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I’m calling because we’re in a climate emergency and we need Congress to act like it. I want the Congressmember to demand that the reconciliation bill include the following:
And end to fossil fuel subsidies
Full funding for a civilian climate corps
Full funding for climate justice
A Clean Electricity Standard
A Green New Deal for public schools
Also please ask the Congressmember to put pressure on President Biden to shut down the Line 3 pipeline and other fossil fuel pipeline projects. The time for those is over. Thanks!
Extra Credit
Please try calling the White House switchboard during its (extremely limited) hours of operation, 11-3 PM EDT Tuesday-Thursday, and ask President Biden to stop construction on Line 3. The number is 202-456-1111.
👉🏼 Failing that, you can send a Resistbot to the President using the same script by texting SIGN PKMYOV to 50409. I made it easy!
If you call you can say:
Hi, my name is _______; I live in _______. I’m calling to ask the President to shut down the Line 3 pipeline. I’m horrified it is still being built. It violates treaties, puts Indigenous people in danger, endangers 227 lakes and rivers, and flies in the face of this administration’s claims that they care about our climate emergency. The President can prove he ACTUALLY cares by stopping construction on this project immediately. Thanks.

I am writing to you as your constituent to ask that you prioritize climate action in future economic recovery legislation.
As the United States deals with the intersecting crises of COVID-19, an economic recession, and climate change, bold action is needed to address all three. Luckily, this is possible and can be done simultaneously through an ambitious green economic recovery package.
Climate change is one of the most existential issues facing us today, and the cost of inaction far outpaces the cost of taking action now. Additionally, climate change affects us all differently, with tribal communities, low-income communities, and communities of color disproportionately bearing the impacts of a changing climate, toxic pollution, and environmental racism.
By prioritizing climate action, including investments in reducing pollution in environmental justice communities, and in creating tens of millions of jobs in the economic sectors of the future, in our economic recovery, we can begin the process of a just transition to a 100% clean energy economy that works for all of us. I urge you to prioritize climate action in future economic recovery legislation for the health of our planet and the people that inhabit it. Thanks!
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
