Hi, all, and happy Wednesday!
I’m thinking of everyone in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas today. Hope you’re staying safe during today’s awful weather. I understand that Florida is under not just a hurricane watch but a tornado watch as well; please be careful.
For the rest of us, let’s take some actions today to ensure that our climate future isn’t as stressful as our climate present. What we do now matters—never forget it. Every fraction of a degree of warming stopped is a less severe storm in your home town, or a slightly smaller fire, or a shorter drought. When it comes to climate change increments are going to matter a ton, and lives will be lost or saved by how much we do now.
So let’s do a lot.

Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
I’m very worried about climate change—hurricane Idalia’s severity is just another reminder of how bad it’s getting—so I am horrified to hear that House Republicans are trying to strip all climate funding from the twelve appropriations bills currently under consideration. I’m hearing they also want to repeal the tax credits that are helping us transition quickly to green energy and creating millions of jobs in the U.S. This is appalling—if we don’t address the climate emergency head on we will lose not just billions of dollars and countless American lives but our future. I expect the Senator to protect climate programs and vote against any cuts to them. Climate action is a top issue for me and I expect my representatives to prioritize it. Thanks.

Tomorrow, Aug 31 at 5:00 PM PT / 8PM ET, join Blue Missouri's own Jessica Piper and special guest Gen Z activist Olivia Julianna for the next Blue Missouri meeting! They'll be talking about organizing and energizing *every* generation – and how younger activists like Olivia are leading the way.
Jess Piper is one of my personal heroes, and Olivia Julianna is doing incredible work, so this should be an amazing conversation. I know I’m going to try to be there!

This is an interesting and quick read on “climate myths” —actions that people think will make a huge difference on climate but won’t—vs. climate reality. I was surprised at some of what I read. See if you are, too!
Win Races! 🗳
Vote Forward still has about a half a MILLION letters left into Virginia. Can we all adopt five today? I’m printing mine right now (I’m writing mine on climate. You can choose topics now if you want!) Imagine if everyone on this list did a handful! We’d put a serious dent in their totals!

On Monday, U.S. Rep. Nikema Williams (D-Ga.) announced a historic package of legislation that would greatly expand voting rights and improve election administration. The announcement came on the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington, a historic civil rights rally that inspired landmark voting rights legislation.
Included in the package are six bills that were reintroduced (some have counterparts in the Senate):
HR 5295 The Expanding the VOTE Act, which increases resources for non-English voters,
H.R. 5292 / S. 630 The Sustaining Our Democracy Act, which provides localities with grant funding to better election administration,
H.R. 5290 The Voters on the Move Registration Act, which provides those who move residences with legal information and instructions for registering to vote,
H.R. 2987 / S. 1391 The Election Mail Act, which sets minimum standards for and improves U.S. Postal Services processes for mail-in voting,
H.R. 5291 The People Over Long Lines Act, which provides resources to reduce waiting times for voters and sets minimum standards for wait times and
H.R. 5293 The Youth Voting Rights Act, which enforces the 26th Amendment and ensures young eligible voters have adequate access to the ballot box.
I support all of these bills, and as my representative I hope you will co-sponsor all of them. Everyone deserves free and fair access to the ballot. We urgently need comprehensive national standards to protect voting rights for everyone—no matter their ZIP Code, no matter their bank account. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk soon.

💙 those Vote Forward letters ! I can support a fave cause while getting out the vote for Va.
I hope DeSantis is not starting a trend with all the “climate change is a hoax “ folks. So far he’s the only governor to refuse the funding. I know of at least one person who replaced a 25–year old heat pump and was expecting the 2000$ rebate….but DeSantis says NOT happening. We just had a @#$&ing CAT 3 hurricane !!! A number of news sites are covering so hopefully many Floridians will be informed. But sadly many are concerned with…surviving a CAT3 hurricane !!!( rant over)😡
