Hi, all, and happy Monday.
Lots going on this week, with the eviction moratorium expiring, a big election in Ohio tomorrow and the recall election in CA approaching fast. Meanwhile it’s unclear where we are with Infrastructure or voting rights.
At times like this it’s tempting to throw our hands up and say “What’s the point? Nothing’s working! These politicians are useless!”
But I’m not giving up. I’m not going to let them off the hook so easily. Instead, I’m going to choose faith.
And guess what?
Faith is an action. Which means we double down on our calls.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, I’m horrified that the House passed HR 1374, which is supposed to protect pipeline infrastructure but will, in reality, endanger the lives of Line 3 protestors, who are already under violent assault. I want the Senator to oppose this legislation. S/he should be standing with pipeline protectors and working to stop Line 3, not passing awful bills like this. [H/T]
Second, what is Congress doing to extend the eviction moratorium? I’m very worried about the millions of people who could start losing their homes TODAY. Congress needs to act immediately to pass legislation to stave off evictions!

Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
First, what is Congress doing to extend the eviction moratorium? I am very worried about the millions of people who could start losing their homes TODAY. Congress needs to come back from recess and act!
Second, I want the Congressmember to support H.R. 2238, the Break Free from Plastic Pollution Act of 2021. Plastic pollution is a huge issue, and we need stronger legislation to make sure that plastic manufacturers do their fair part to reduce unnecessary production and waste of plastic consumables. Thanks. [H/T]

There is no safe level of lead exposure in our drinking water. It is inexcusable that in the United States in the year 2021 hundreds of thousands of our children continue to drink water from lead service lines in their homes and schools.
President Biden's landmark American Jobs Plan would invest $100 billion to fix our water infrastructure, including provisions to:
- Remove all lead service lines delivering drinking water to homes in all 50 states at no direct cost to the homeowner;
- Get people back to work and create good-paying jobs removing lead service lines;
- Expedite removal of lead service lines in low-income communities and communities of color suffering disproportionately from lead-contaminated water, and begin to address lead contamination in school drinking water;
- Make drinking water infrastructure across the country stronger and more resilient in the face of climate change-driven extreme weather
No one in our country should be forced to drink unsafe water. Please include the removal of lead service lines from the ground in the bipartisan infrastructure bill being negotiated right now, or in a broader recovery package. For our children’s future, it is critical that we act now to invest in fixing our water infrastructure. Thank you.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
