Chop Wood, Carry Water 7/9
Hi, all, and happy Friday!
Crazy weather here in NY, with tons of rain, flooded train stations, shut-down freeways, and hydroplaning cars. It’s another excellent reminder of why we can’t afford to relent on pushing Congress to pass climate legislation.
But there’s a whole lot more going on as well, and today we’ll focus on some of our other priorities.
Speaking of which, great news: President Biden released an Executive Order on competition today that’s really worth celebrating. While it won’t fix all of the income inequality in our country, it’s an excellent first step, and we should all spread the word. (Especially when we consider the above graphic.) It’s long overdue.
It’s yet another reminder—as if we needed one—that elections matter. The two parties are not the same. Democrats do care about American workers. The GOP definitively does not.
So let’s be grateful that we’re on the right side of history, and celebrate our victories where we gain them…
And then work to make more victories tomorrow.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, I support the Women’s Health Protection Act and would like to know if the Senator is a co-sponsor. [If yes thank. If no express disappointment and ask them to get on board.]
Second, I support the passage of federal voting rights legislation to counteract the horrific voter suppression happening on a state level, and I want the Senator to as well. [If Dem add:] This includes filibuster abolishment or reform.
[If Dem add:] Finally, we need to pass the Judiciary Act and expand the Supreme Court. We have to protect our right to vote before it’s too late. Thanks.
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I know that Congressmembers Bush, Pressley, and Jayapal have just introduced The People’s Response Act. This bill will advance a non-carceral paradigm for community safety and I support it. Please ask the Congressmember to co-sponsor it.
Also, I support the Women’s Health Protection Act and would like to know if the Congressmember is a co-sponsor. [If yes thank. If no express disappointment and ask them to get on board.]

EASY ACTION to help defend voting rights (and so many other rights)!
We’re hearing from folks in the know that more pressure needs to be put on President Biden to support filibuster reform publicly. So let’s do that! We’ve made it really easy by creating a Resistbot letter you can send by simply texting SIGN PECJNN to Resistbot.
So please text SIGN PECJNN to 50409, or message it to @Resistbot on FB, to let Biden know you want him to publicly support filibuster reform. Takes 10 seconds (maybe 30 seconds if you're new to Resistbot so they can get your info) and you're done!
[Maybe add a GIF to get better engagement!]

Support VBM in Florida!
In Florida, voters can enroll in Vote By Mail by phone to their county Supervisor of Elections office. They don't need to wait for a VBM application form to be mailed to them. They don't need to sign anything. They don't need to go to a web site.
When Democrats receive their ballots automatically in the mail, they are as much as 46% more likely to vote than their counterparts who are not enrolled. Strengthening the habit of voting among Florida Democrats means more Democratic candidates will win. Just having the ballot show up can be enough to move the needle in election after election.
Fortunately, Postcards to Voters has a huge campaign going to encourage Florida Democrats to sign up for VBM. Can you help? To get started:

I’m writing as someone who voted for you and helped to get you elected to ask you to please stop the Line 3 tar sands pipeline.
Your administration did the right thing by cancelling the permit for Keystone XL.
Like Keystone XL, the Line 3 tar sands pipeline is a threat to our climate and water and violates Native American treaty rights.
The permits for this massive expansion were issued without proper review by the Trump Administration. The Army Corps of Engineers refused to prepare a federal Environmental Impact Statement for Line 3, even though the project would cross hundreds of bodies of water including the Mississippi headwaters.
I urge you to revoke or amend Line 3’s presidential permit, as you did for Keystone XL, and direct the Army Corps of Engineers to immediately reevaluate and suspend or revoke the Line 3 project’s Clean Water Act Section 404 permit.
Please take action to both honor treaty rights and science by stopping the construction of this dangerous pipeline. Please create good jobs by investing in clean water and clean energy for all our communities. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
