Hi, all, and happy Wednesday.
Wow. Thank you to the many, many of you who reached out with offers to write letters or postcards into West Virginia. Seriously incredible response.
If anyone else is interested, a few more details: to write postcards you’ll need your own VOTE-themed or neutral postcards and postcard stamps. To write letters you’ll need a printer, paper, business envelopes and regular stamps. Also a blue pen. A highlighter is very helpful for both postcards and letters.
Everything needs to be mailed by the end of July at latest, although earlier is always better.
Love you, folks. And remember, the work you’re doing MATTERS. See the above letter. We never know when we’re changing a life.
I can assure you that you’re changing MINE—for the better—every day.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
Climate change is an existential threat.
I believe any recovery package Congress passes must address the climate crisis. I want the Senator to cosponsor the following bills and advocate for them to be included in recovery:
The Environmental Justice Mapping and Data Collection Act
The Civilian Climate Corps for Jobs and Justice Act
The American Renewable Energy Act
Also, pass voting rights legislation now! Tell the Senator to vigorously support the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting rights Advancement Act! Thanks! [H/T]
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
Last month was the hottest June on record in North America, more than 2 degrees hotter than the recent average. The heat dome in the Pacific Northwest killed hundreds of people. Fires are raging in the West. I don’t need to go on. Climate change is an existential threat.
I believe any recovery package must address the climate crisis. I want the Congressmember to cosponsor the following bills and advocate for them to be included in recovery:
The Environmental Justice Mapping and Data Collection Act
The Civilian Climate Corps for Jobs and Justice Act
The American Renewable Energy Act
Thanks! [H/T]

In less than 2 weeks, major banks will decide whether to renew $4.6 billion in loans to Enbridge, or to walk away from Line 3. THIS IS HUGE!
Last week, thousands of us sent emails to the CEOs of the funders of Line 3, demanding they walk away from their upcoming loans.
Today we are shutting down their phone lines by calling to demand that they #DefundLine3. Stop the Money Pipeline has a call script and a call tool that will even dial for you. I just spoke to someone at the Citibank CEO’s office—she was very nice and it felt very empowering! I went on to make the rest of the calls, as they were so easy and it felt so important. But please, even if you only make one call this couldn’t be more important. Go here to get started.

Mad about the bad —[cough cough in some cases racist]—choices the Olympics are making? Go here for four great and easy actions to take.
Or just pick up the phone like I did here and call USATF. I told them I was super disappointed in them for their decision to not put Sha’Carri Richardson on the roster EVEN THOUGH she will have completed her penalty by the time of the race.

One of your most exciting campaign planks was the American Jobs Plan, which promised to tackle not only issues such as our care economy, water infrastructure and manufacturing, but also climate change, accelerating our country’s long overdue transition to clean energy and transportation. I was disappointed with your compromise which eliminated the majority of spending on climate change to appease “moderate” Democrats like Manchin and Sinema.
Last week Exxon lobbyist Keith McCoy was recorded describing how he got these legislators to kneecap your vision, paring it down to an old-fashioned “roads and bridges” plan to protect his company’s oil refineries and maintaining their already unfairly low tax rate.
He stated that ambitious action on climate change wouldn’t succeed because it wasn’t an existential threat like the pandemic. Any hopes of getting those issues through in a separate bill will hit this same shadow government of “Exxon” lobbyists and compromised legislators.
Well, a “heat dome” was an existential threat to the hundreds who dropped dead in their homes this week. Do 600k have to die RIGHT NOW from climate change to count? Can we add in the kids who can’t go to schools without cooling systems, businesses slowing down, crops withering and endangered infrastructure to tip the tally towards your original plan?
Please rescind your compromise in the face of the undeniable emergency we’re facing and use this opportunity to accomplish what we sent you to Washington to do. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
