For some reason this reminder of Dumbo and the feather and the power of belief was just what I needed today. I just underwent about a 24-hour period of despondency (it happens). Couldn't even read my usual substacks last night, all of them laying out in detail what's happening and how dangerous is it--I KNOW. I also am trying to connect in person with more activist people in my local community, because I know that's how we keep going. Thanks for what you do.
I had to reply because I'm going through a similar period of despair. I couldn't finish Heather Cox Richardson this morning. I can't see any daylight anymore. I think it was the Bove confirmation that put me over. I am going to take a media break for a few days. At least I'm in good company.
I have to admit that I am tired of spinning my wheels and calling my red senator and representatives. The only thing I get back is a form letter from Ashley Moody (actually her office has been sending me a dozen form letter responses for every time I send one!) and Rick Scott when I use resistbot or just on their contact form. And Carlos Gimenez has actual people answering the phone and they assure me that they will give him the information, but he is totally blind and deaf. Here’s a recent article about him. I’m not convinced that contacting them does any good whatsoever, sorry…
He even denies hearing anything from his constituents about Epstein. It’s definitely not working on my end. And I’d rather not spin my wheels anymore… I want to spend time with things that really make a difference and this appears not to make any difference whatsoever!
I’m very upset with how things are, and unless there’s a great change in the Congress and their attitude, unless there’s a great change in the Supreme Court attitude, both pretty questionable… I don’t see a way out of this short of The military or Marshalls coming in, and even they have been compromised. We, as demonstrators are not totally unified, they are disjointed, so there’s different demonstrations going on at different times. They need to be orchestrated more in unison, like No Kings. And the pundits, but no action.
I know there’s been good news, but not good enough! Something radical has to happen to change this…
If they're sending you letters even form letters, somebody has to do that, even if it's not Gimenez it is his staff who see the amount of letters coming in, if they didn't have a lot there would be ordinary personalised letters. If even 5 people tell another 5 people and they tell another 5 people ad infinitum word is spreading.
This coup did not happen overnight, it was planned probably since the last time the orange Mussolini was elected, ergo it will take time to take it down.
'You say he even denies hearing anything from his constituents about Epstein' he's hardly going to admit it and from what I've seen from far away most of them are strangers to the truth anyway. But the Epstein affair might just be the straw that broke the camel's back.
It's not just the US charging to the right, it's happening all over the globe, but some are changing. Look how long it has taken for the EU, Britain and others to say they will recognise Palestine, disgusting I know, but now the trickle has turned into a flow and soon, I hope it will be a tidal wave.
Take a break if you must and gather your strength, but don't despair nil carborundum desperandum.
Thank you for your peptalk… I’m not quitting, but maybe not so much correspondence with those lame people. Good point about the form letters, however, they aren’t even specific to a subject. I will do other things that I feel will effect change.
Now is our moment—take action against this harmful government. Covering up a pedophile ring. Ignoring court orders. Blatant corruption. The poor, the needy, and children are being abused—by our government. In the streets we must protest outright crooks and the pedophiles until after their shooting us starts, until we go down or we oust tyrants. I made 54 protest signs, and will make many more to share. You will see something different in these signs! Help yourself to this second batch, and share them as far as you can.
Your “incoherent” long message was clear as can be and as usual the extra push I needed to keep going. It gets hard. Especially when I hear someone on NPR this morning saying the Dems don’t include the working class when that’s what Biden’s whole admin was about. (A dem said that.) But- we move on because what else is there? Thank you for your encouragement. It’s needed.
I knew a fellow that used to have a sign on his desk that said, "Where is Lee Harvey Oswald now that we really need him?" I know it's crude and I'd certainlynot put it on my desk - but I'm begining to not think it's funny any more, - for different reasons.
