Hi, all, and happy Thursday.
Two things: first, I’m so sorry if you didn’t get the newsletter yesterday. It appears that Substack didn’t send it out properly—I’m not sure what happened. In lieu of publishing a brand new one—as it is once again very late and I’ve been driving all day—I am going to send the link to yesterday’s so you can take the very important actions listed therein. I worked particularly hard on it, as you’ll see!
One more thing: I’m sure you’ve heard that Joe Manchin and Chuck Schumer seem to have come to some sort of an agreement on a climate/healthcare/drug pricing bill. It’s called the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, and, all things considered, it’s a pretty great piece of legislation. Especially compared to what we thought we were going to get a couple of weeks ago. So please, when you make your calls to your Senators today, be sure to tell the Democratic ones that you support this bill, and hope to see it passed immediately! (It’s to be passed via Reconciliation, so doesn’t need GOP support.)
Thanks! I’ll be back Friday with a “normal” email.
Jess
So far so good with one exception: the new bill opens public lands to oil drilling and the BLM is a horrific tragedy, a shameful mess, butchering our iconic wild Mustangs and burros which is ruining the entire environment and can't be undone. This bill is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. We need a real climate oriented bill. The Earth won't be habitable for ANYONE, man woman or child, if we don't demand true environmental elements in the legislation. It's only reasonable to end oil dependency immediately. The oil oligarchy won't suffer: they are rich enough.
