Hey, everyone!
No full newsletter today but I wanted drop in quickly because, after all, this vote could happen today. Having said that, Johnson doesn’t yet have the votes. So keep calling! Please use the script I gave you yesterday or use 5 Calls. I’m hearing from insiders right now that the calls to moderate Republicans AND the so-called “debt hawks” are really important. But if you have a Republican rep just call regardless.
Democrats’ plan is to use every procedural tool at their disposal to delay, delay, and delay more. Why? Because the more Americans know about what’s in the bill the more they hate it. So delay is our friend!
Here’s a short interview I did with Rep. Seth Magaziner this morning about how Democrats plan to tackle this situation today. Highly recommend watching.
Get the DL on the Bill with me later today!
I’ll be doing a special Substack Live at 3:15 PM PT / 6:15PM ET today with Heather Boushey, an economist who served on President Biden’s Council of Economic Advisors and the Chief Economist for the Invest in America Cabinet at the White House. We’ll talk about the economic consequences of this bill’s passage—assuming it does pass—and how you can best explain it to your friends and family. Heather’s whip smart and really fun to talk to. Hope to see some of you there! Just open the app at 3:15 PM PT and it should pop up!

The Congressional Progressive Caucus newsletter is out with a new explainer for what’s in the Senate version of the bill. I LOVE this newsletter and this edition in particular is an invaluable resource. Read it here.

Some important resources for your messaging today:
Here’s a one-pager from House Dems about what’s in the Big Ugly Bill.
Here’s a similar doc—a really good one—from Unrig Our Economy.
And this is a GREAT one specifically about the dangerous healthcare provisions in the bill. Really good.

New York City’s municipal elections are in full swing, and Postcards for Democracy have just launched a last-minute postcard campaign, now live on Postcards For Democracy’s portal, to help flip a City Council district in Queens.
Dermot Smyth is a real Democrat, with a proven track record of service, a unique background in NYC politics, deep community ties, and genuine support. His primary opponents, however, are not who they claim to be—one is a Republican in disguise, and another is a recent transplant and former Republican who registered as a Democrat when he filed to run for City Council.
Join Markers For Democracy in writing postcards to these Queens, NY voters to help them see through the spin and choose the City Council candidate who will truly represent and fight for them.
They have about 8,000 voters remaining. Please write 10 (or more!) postcards if you can. Get started here!
OK, you did it again! You’re helping to save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk soon.
Jess
I just called Kevin Mullin's office to thank him and the staff for everything they're doing, and to specifically ask him to try to get the GOP's removal of taxes on silencers and other weapons out of the bill again, The Senate Dems got the parliamentarian to disallow that removal, but the Senate GOP put it back in.
The staffer told me something I hadn't heard before - that they make a summary of all the day's calls, and she knows he reads it because he always gets back to her with questions about the calls. She sounded tired, and sad, but very determined.
I'm glad I made the call, even though I know he's already working as hard as he can.
Thank you Jess! I’ve put together a list of vulnerable Republicans, their contact info/social media accounts with links and everything you need to know about this 💩 MAGA budget.
Friends - As Jess said, let’s spread the word to everyone we know. And definitely comment on their social media posts!!
