Hi, all, and happy Thursday!
I want to apologize in advance for any typos you may encounter—I’m writing this while driving across Pennsylvania. (Don’t worry—I’m in the passenger seat!) We are caravaning to Ohio for a show in Clevleand Heights tonight.
A road trip is an excellent reminder of what an exquisitely beautiful country we live in. Let’s fight to protect it by making the below calls. It’ll only take a moment, and if we all do it we can really make a difference!
But you already knew that, you beautiful difference-makers. 💙
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, I know that Senate Democrats have introduced a sweeping $3.5 trillion budget proposal, that would augment Medicare coverage, lower prescription drug costs, invest heavily in new programs to combat climate change and tackle long-standing policy priorities on immigration. I support it strongly and want the Senator to as well. We need to go big—especially on healthcare and climate. This bill accomplishes that, and pays for it largely by raising taxes on the megarich. Love it. And I also support the bipartisan infrastructure deal to rebuild US roads and bridges.
Finally, please pass voting rights legislation now! I’m sickened by the voter suppression bills being passed across the country.
[If Dem close with:] Democrats need to reform the filibuster, stop letting the GOP thwart them, and get their agenda done.
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
First, I know Democratic Senators have introduced draft legislation called the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act, [which would decriminalize marijuana at the federal level, expunge nonviolent marijuana-related arrests and convictions from federal records, and earmark funding for restorative justice programs. I support all of this, and] I want the Congressmember to co-sponsor the House version of such a bill.
Second, I know a second infrastructure bill is in the works. I want to ask the Congressmember to push for it to be big and bold. We need Medicare expansion, we need giant spending on climate, we need more child and eldercare funding. Go big! I support the THRIVE agenda and hope the Congressmember will as well.
Extra Credit
Judd Legum reported on twitter yesterday that AT&T just gave Texas Governor Greg Abbott 100K in new campaign donations. As in JUST. Yup. That’s AFTER he signed a new and vicious anti-abortion bill into law. After he threatened to arrest Democratic lawmakers fighting for voting rights in his state. After he expressed support for the anti-trans legislation about to pass in his state. After attacking CRT. After children froze to death in an entirely preventable power outage.
If you use ATT I encourage you to switch. They are literally the worst. And make sure you tell them why.
But either way, please click here to send them a pre-written email—please personalize it, though. (If it doesn’t work on your computer try on your phone.)
You can—and should!— also post a message on their Facebook page or in their direct messages.

Joan’s Democracy Cafe has 3 great campaigns running in their 3-6PM EST phonebank today. One takes on gerrymandering in GA and the other two continue with calling voters in AZ and WV to put pressure on Sinema and Manchin to pass voting rights legislation.
All three are critically important.
Everything you need to know plus the signup link is here. Training, as always, will be provided.

As your constituent, I was thrilled to see President Biden announce sweeping protections for Alaska’s Tongass National Forest today. Now it’s time to do more! Now, with concern for indigenous rights, climate, lands protection and the common good, I urge Congress to pass legislation this year that dismantles the leasing program and restores protections to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
This fight extends beyond oil and gas. The coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge provides vital habitats for polar bears, migratory birds and other species and is the calving ground of the Porcupine Caribou Herd. Indigenous Gwich’in communities have a spiritual connection to the refuge and depend on the caribou to maintain their culture and way of life.
We must ensure corporate polluters aren’t able to permanently destroy this sacred place for a finite supply of dirty fossil fuels. It's time to end drilling in the Refuge once and for all. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
