Hi, all, and happy Monday!
I’m running out, so have to keep it short.
There’s lots going on—take deep breaths, remember you’re not alone, and know that the best way to victory is through simple, persistent actions. Despair is the enemy.
So is fear.
So is apathy.
Hope is an action.
Let’s take some hopeful actions right now.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I am calling to ask the Senator to have the political courage to make the upcoming budget resolution as big, bold and green as possible.
We need expanded Medicare. We need aggressive action on climate change. We need a pathway to citizenship for immigrants. We need universal child care, paid family and medical leave, and we need to make the expansion of the child tax credit permanent.
So please, ask them to go big.
[If Dem add:] I will have the Senator’s back as a constituent if they do so.
[If GOP add:] This is about Americans’ survival. Please ask the Senator to put country over party and act to bolster all of our futures. Thanks. [H/T]
[to all:] Also please pass S1 and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act! These bills are a top priority! Thanks.
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I am calling to ask the Congressmember to have the political courage to make the upcoming budget resolution as big, bold and green as possible.
We need expanded Medicare. We need aggressive action on climate change. We need a pathway to citizenship for immigrants. We need universal child care, paid family and medical leave, and we need to make the expansion of the child tax credit permanent.
Go big, please.
[If Dem add:] You will have my back as a constituent if you do so.
[If GOP add:] This is about Americans’ survival. Please ask the Senator to put country over party and do the right thing for all of our futures. Thanks. [H/T]
Extra Credit
Read this absolutely enraging article by Judd Legum about a man who’s been charged with multiple counts of election fraud for mistakenly voting while on parole—two months before he actually became eligible—and then send a message to Governor Abbott at https://www.gregabbott.com/contact-us/. I’m saying:
I’m writing to request that you please ask Attorney General Paxton to drop the charges against Hervis Rogers. While I know you may not care about what an out-of-state person thinks, I will say that, between this, the Texas GOP’s rampant voter suppression, and the anti-LGBTQ legislation you’re about to sign into law I am making a point of not shopping from Texas-based businesses or buying Texas-raised meat anymore. I am urging everyone I know to do the same, and will start contacting companies based in your state asking them to stop donating to you and the Texas GOP.
To punish a man who voted in good faith, believing he was eligible, just to prove that “voter fraud” exists, especially when your own Attorney General is under indictment, is sickening. Shame on you and shame on Ken Paxton.
But feel free to write what you wish.
Save Our Vote! ☎️
The Texas legislature is back in session and lawmakers have resumed efforts at voter suppression. The good news: literally hundreds of voters showed up to speak up against it.
Volunteers and moderators from Reclaim Our Vote will be on Zoom as usual this Tue, July 13 (5 to 7pm ET) to call voters in Arizona and ask them to call Senators Sinema and Kelly to modify the filibuster and pass the 'For The People Act' so we can stop all state-level voter suppression efforts and guarantee everyone's right to vote. Can you help?
Again, it’s tomorrow from 5-7PM EST and you can join using this zoom link.

[to all 3 reps] [H/T]
I’m writing to urge you to support a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, essential workers, and Temporary Protected Status holders in the next recovery package.
Creating a path to citizenship will unlock the potential of millions of immigrants who continue to live in fear and uncertainty. Recognizing the contributions of immigrants, including their contributions to our schools, our economy, and our communities, will benefit our whole country. Millions of immigrants served on the frontlines of the pandemic, kept essential industries afloat, and enabled our recovery, while hundreds of thousands of Dreamers and TPS holders continue to live in limbo.
Please make sure that the next recovery package protects everyone, including immigrant communities, and I urge you to support a pathway to citizenship.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
