Hi, all, and happy Wednesday.
My goodness, there’s a lot going on.
It’s entirely understandable to feel exhausted. I know I do. But one thing I try to ask myself every day, in order to not wear myself out, is: what can I change, and what can’t I?
I can’t change the fact that white supremacists want to overthrow our government and replace it with a tyrant. I can’t change climate change. I can’t change the existence of gun violence.
But just because I can’t do that, it doesn’t mean I shouldn’t do something. I can make a couple of phone calls. I can send an email or two. I i sign up to make a half an hour of calls into West Virginia. It’s scary, but not getting S1 passed is scarier.
What can YOU do today? Whatever it is, please know that I’m doing it with you.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is [name].
I’m calling to say that I want the Senate to pass S1, the For the People Act. What makes something "bipartisan" is not whether politicians of both parties endorse a bill—but whether the proposal has broad support among voters across the political spectrum. This bill does. It’s time to stop making excuses, and start delivering results for the American people. We want dark money out of politics; we want partisan gerrymandering to end. We want to be able to vote freely and fairly. Do your jobs, please. Make passing S1 your top priority. [If Dem add:] And absolutely abolish the filibuster to do so. Thanks.
[Extra credit add:] Also please ask the Senator to vote to confirm Zahid N. Quraishi, to be United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, to be US Circuit Judge for the DC Circuit. Thanks.
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is [name].
I know the House is on recess this week, and I want to know what events the Congressmember is doing in our district. As in, Town Halls, meet and greets, etc.
[If they are having a Town Hall} Thank you. I would like the details.
[If they aren’t] Why is the Congressmember not interacting with their constituents on recess. Isn’t that their job? Please ask them to schedule a Town Hall. There’s a lot going on, and I have questions for my representative. Thanks.

No matter where we live, or what our Senators have already said, @staceyabrams is asking us to call our Senators every day in June to demand that they pass the For The People Act. 888-453-3211. Please call daily to keep the pressure on. Do it for Stacey.

Send this to President Biden here or on Resistbot.
As construction continues on the Enbridge Line 3 tar sands oil pipeline with many legal, safety, and environmental issues still unresolved, I’m writing to ask you to act immediately to stop construction by revoking the Army Corps 404 or presidential permits for the project and requiring additional federal environmental review.
We know construction on Line 3 poses huge risks to our communities. Bringing people to construct this project in rural and tribal communities brings with it the increased potential of sex trafficking that the state acknowledged in the environmental analysis they prepared on this project. Frontline leaders are already reporting increased tension and threats of racist violence.
We’ve seen time and time again across the country that big oil companies build their pipelines as quickly as they can before appeals can be heard in court. Don’t let that happen here; raise your voice against it now. This pipeline is too big and its impacts are too great for you to wait. Please ensure we can keep working together for a clean, just and equitable future. Honor the treaties and protect our climate by stopping the Line 3 tar sands pipeline now. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
