Hi, all, and happy Wednesday!
So much going on.
I, like you, am trying to find the balance between enjoying the summer—and my family—while simultaneously staying engaged in the fight for our democracy. It’s a bit of a juggling act, but achievable.
When my energy falters (or the pool calls…again) I watch videos like this one. 👆
Make no mistake: we are in the fight of our lives. We thought it might end with the ousting of Trump; instead it has only just begun.
It’s a fight we must and can win.
And we will. With the hopeful actions we continue to take, together.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
I’m frustrated that a federal judge threw out two anti-trust cases against Facebook. It’s made it more clear than ever that we need legislation to rein in big tech and update our anti-trust laws. I know a package of bills already exists—I want the Senator to fight to get them passed. [optional add:] They include the Merger Filing Fee Modernization Act, the Platform Anti-Monopoly Act, the Ending Platform Monopolies Act, the Augmenting Compatibility and Competition by Enabling Service Switching Act, and the Platform Competition and Opportunity Act. Please ask him/her to support them all.
Also, I want the Senator to support the For the People Act [if Dem add] and support filibuster reform to get it passed. Thanks.

Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I’m frustrated that a federal judge threw out two anti-trust cases against Facebook. It’s made it more clear than ever that we need legislation to rein in big tech and rewrite our anti-trust laws. I know a package of bills already exists—I want the Congressmember to fight to get them passed. Please ask him/her to fight to pass them all.
Also, please ask the representative to fight to include full funding to address our climate emergency in the infrastructure bill. This is non-negotiable. Thanks.
Extra Credit
Senator Jeff Merkley, who introduced S1 in the Senate, has said that it’s critical to call our Senators DAILY, even the ones who have stated that they support changing the filibuster to enable passing S1. This way, more Senators will speak up in the Democratic caucus meetings, telling their colleagues that their phones are ringing off the hook for S1.
Ain’t it great that the Center for Common Ground created a campaign to do just that? When you text DEMOCRACY to 33339, you’ll get daily texts to remind you to call your Senators. I signed up. AWESOME!
Get on the Phones! ☎️
I love Joan’s Democracy Cafe phonebanks. They’re incredibly friendly, well-organized, and ideal for new callers. Their trainings are thorough as heck, and moderators are there throughout the session to help answer any and all questions.
Every week their volunteers call in support of S1 on Thursdays and Saturdays. This week is no exception! Can’t recommend going highly enough. You’ll LOVE it!

[to your Senators] [H/T]
I’m writing today because I want the Senator to represent my views, those of my family, and the majority of Americans, by adding his/her vote to supporting S.393 – the Equality Act. More than 100 faith groups have endorsed this bill, stating that their support is grounded in the religious belief that all people should be able to live free from discrimination.
Research has shown that the discrimination LGBTQI+ people face harms those targeted physically, mentally and economically. New anti-LGBTQ state laws are traumatizing kids already endangered by high suicide rates and forcing families to uproot their lives to maintain their childrens’ access to health care.
We’ve had enough. Enough of stripping our friends, co-workers and family of the respect and dignity due them with “refusal” laws. Enough of harming kids to score political points. The anti-LGBTQI+ bills passing in GOP-dominated states are legislative hate crimes. It’s past time to recognize the essential humanity of all our citizens and remove this last bar to equal treatment of our LGBTQI+ community. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
