Hi, all, and happy Monday!
Oof, there’s a lot going on. I keep hoping we’re going to get a quiet weekend—or, God forbid, a quiet week!—but it doesn’t seem to be our fate right now.
Things are going to move fast over the next few days—we have SCOTUS decisions coming, a brewing crisis in Russia, more insanity from the House Republicans, more developments in Jack Smith’s cases—so I’ll try to keep up with actions that fit the circumstances. Whatever happens, we will handle it.
It’s a lot, but we’re up to the task, y’all. Breathe in strength; breathe out fear. Stay in the day. Remember to eat and take breaks.
And remember that YOU are changing the course of history. That’s no small thing.
Call Your Senators (find yours here) 📲
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
I’m calling to ask the Senator to prioritize confirming Anna Gomez to the FCC and Juli Su to the Labor Department as soon as possible. The slow pace of these confirmations is bad for Americans. Both departments need these nominees in place in order to fully function. Thanks.
Call Your House Rep (find yours here) 📲
[to GOP reps]
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I’m calling because I’ve heard that Republicans are now planning to impeach Merrick Garland because they think he’s been too easy on Hunter Biden. Do Republicans understand that this is not how Americans want them to spend their time or our taxpayer dollars? We want them to focus on real problems affecting real Americans. Republicans’ insistence on performative politics when there is so much that needs fixing in our country is outrageous. Please get to work for us, your constituents. Make corporations stop price gouging. Pass transmission reform. Help address the gun violence crisis. Do anything productive. Just govern. Thanks.

Join New Jersey advocates to help shut down Elizabeth Detention Center by demanding President Biden and NJ Governor Murphy end the ICE detention contract there! (Learn more here.) For decades this center has been rife with abuse—a part of a network of ICE jails mired in a culture of secrecy and dehumanization that includes shocking deaths.
Text the below to President Biden at (302) 404-0880 (or send via his “Contact me” portal):
I want the Biden administration to exercise its power to shut down the Elizabeth Detention Center in New Jersey. President Biden has been clear from the beginning of his presidency that “there should be no private prisons, period.” Please ask him to fulfill his promise. This center is rife with abuse. Shut it down!
Then send a comment to Governor Phil Murphy.
1) Go to this portal link (OK to do whether you’re in NJ or not).

4) Subject: SHUT DOWN ELIZABETH DETENTION CENTER
Message:
I am contacting you in strong support of shutting down Elizabeth Detention Center due to its ongoing history of abuse and neglect of migrants that have been detained there. Gov. Murphy signed A5207 law prohibiting local and state contracts with ICE. Now is the time to end the contract at Elizabeth and not renew! During the 30 year anniversary of the first uprising at Elizabeth detention center, I urge Gov. Murphy to protect immigrant communities in New Jersey by not renewing the contract or repurposing the facility and shutting down Elizabeth for good! Thanks!
Get Smart! 📚
Many of you know Focus for Democracy—it’s a pro-bono donor advisory group that approaches political investment in a smart and data-driven way. On Thursday they are holding a zoom briefing to reveal how effective their 2022 midterm programs were (spoiler alert: very!) This is not a fundraiser. It’ll look at what worked, what didn’t, and what the plan is going into 2024. I’ve seen the presentation already and it’s both fascinating and heartening. Highly recommend.
Feel free to forward this invitation to others (but not on social media, please).
Thursday, June 29th from 5:00pm PT/8:00pm ET

This new memo from the White House on Bidenomics and how it’s benefitting Americans should be required reading. We all need to help amplify Biden’s economic message. Read this to get a sense of what the talking points are, then share, share, share!

As you all know, Cop City involves a plan to cut down 80+ acres of forest and build a police militarization facility in a majority-Black area of Atlanta. This is a project backed by corporate money and full of corruption; the people of Atlanta oppose it.
Organizers in Georgia have been fighting for two years to stop Cop City. Unfortunately the Atlanta City Council just voted to approve it anyway.
The only hope – and what organizers are now intent on pulling off – is a ballot referendum.
This requires 75,000 verified signatures (the goal is to collect at least 100,000).
Time is short. The deadline for signatures is August 15th. Groups have less than 60 days left to collect them all and get them verified.
Phase 1 of this work, alone, is estimated to cost $2 Million.
The Movement Voter Project is stepping up to help raise funds for this effort. Please give if you can. All donations will go to their trusted local partner, New Disabled South Rising Inc., the 501(c)(4) fiscal sponsor for the Stop Cop City Referendum Campaign. Give here.

I’m writing with the greatest urgency to ask President Biden to push to remove Sultan Al Jaber as President-Designate of COP28.
Climate change is an existential threat that transcends borders, economies, and political affiliations.
The upcoming COP28 climate talks in Dubai this November could be a crucial opportunity to forge the path toward a sustainable future. The question is whether Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, head of the Abu Dhabi oil giant ADNOC and President-Designate of the upcoming COP28, can build that path -- or whether he’ll prioritize his fossil fuel industry ties. I think we all know the answer.
As the CEO of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company al Jaber is responsible for maximizing the company's profits. Under his leadership ADNOC pumped 2.7 million barrels of oil per day in 2021. According to OPEC, he aims to nearly double that output by 2027. Increasing the production and consumption of fossil fuels -- a major contributor to global warming -- is in direct conflict with the leadership role al Jaber is to assume at COP28.
President Biden has enormous influence when it comes to al Jaber’s position. I’m writing to ask him to advocate for impartial and unbiased leadership at COP28 by pushing to remove Sultan Al Jaber as President-Designate. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk soon.

Activate America has a new campaign to write postcards to voters in 6 Congressional districts in California and New York, and now Kyrsten Sinema's seat in Arizona to let them know their representative has repeatedly voted against common sense gun safety laws, and they need to vote this person out of office in 2024 and elect someone who will write much needed gun safety laws.
