Hi, all, and happy Monday!
I forgot to tell you this on Friday—I think because I feel a bit sheepish—but I am flying to New York tomorrow so my plan is to take this week (mostly) off. It’s hard to do for me, but I will be seeing my mother, step-father, sisters, and nieces for the first time in almost two years, AND meeting my new 4-month-old nephew for the first time. I haven’t had a week (or really day) off since Christmas, and I am determined, for a few days at least, to spend some quality time with my family.
Because this is the week before the vote on the For the People Act, though, I have one ask for you, and it’s the same ask Stacey Abrams has:
Call your Senators. EVERY. DAY. THIS. WEEK.
It doesn’t matter who they are. It doesn’t matter how “good” or how “awful.” Be they Ted Cruz, Elizabeth Warren, John Tetser, or Josh Hawley…
Call.
Say: “I support the For the People Act and I want the Senator to make passing it his/her top priority.” If they are Democrat tell them to reform the filibuster to get it done.
Stacey Abrams has asked that we do this. The folks working to pressure Joe Manchin have asked that we do this. Indivisible National is asking that we do this. I know it’s tiring; I know it’s annoying. I know it feels redundant.
Please, do it anyway.
If you don’t know who your Senators are look them up here.
For more on this, plus a rundown of what I learned at the Manchin meeting on Friday, please listen to this week’s podcast episode, which will drop later today.
OK. If anything huge comes up I’ll of course send out an email. If not I will be back to you a week from today.
Thanks for allowing me to take a brief respite! And thanks, in advance, for the daily calls you’re going to make!
Jess
