Thank you! I've called the disappointing Dem's especially Golden who is the worst with every vote wrong... and my Dem congressman to congratulate him. glad the Strait is open, no thanks to Trump; hoping His Holiness will continue to beat Trump over the head. Hope we can continue to win elections, will be passing out paper tomorrow at the demo against Trump in my community, asking people to give:

At the moment they are only 1 or 2 points ahead of their Republican opponents:

NH Chris Pappas,

AK Mary Peltola,

ME Matt Dunlap,

NC Roy Cooper,

GA Jon Ossoff,

OH Sherrod Brown,

TX James Talarico,

SD Brian Bengs, Independent, former JAG officer

All are begging for funds. We need them to WIN!!!

For more information, see their websites and if you can, GIVE $!

So this is interesting, in light of the States Win article- do you think our small donations help these folks? I’m especially motivated by Sherrod Brown, since I grew up in Ohio…

Jess Craven's avatar

I think they help…but the money to states probably goes farther. Maybe do both?

Susan's avatar

Yes!!! Sherrod Brown is The Best! And I don't live in Ohio!!

Thank you so much for your service!

Thanks, Jess. I called Jared Golden's office this morning and learning from you about Tom Suozzi's vote, I called his office. I've communicated with Golden's office in the past, at some point with praise, but more often than not, expressing disappointment. My understanding is that he's not seeking re-election but that doesn't give him license to be reckless with his vote, not now, not ever.

As for Tom Suozzi, he was my congressperson and I'd especially appreciated him. Even after the redistricting that took place when I was no longer his constituent, I supported his campaigns via contributions, postcards, one-on-one conversations with Republican and Dem friends, among some of the ways to support him. Unfortunately, he's all too often disappointed since his special election in February '24 and November of '24 victories. The argument that he, as argued for Golden, has to "walk a thin line" given their constituent base, just doesn't fly in the face of the existential crisis we are in. I've attempted to express my concerns in detailed exchanges with his office, to offer some grace, and not be reactive up until now. Today, I told Suozzi's staffer that he has lost my support. Can't say I'm proud that I'm turning away. Although I am choosing instead to place my attention and energies elsewhere.

Yeah they can’t really get away with saying the republicans in their district will be mad when twenty House freedom caucus members voted with the Dems.

The correct was to address the Pope in the context of your article is Your Holiness. A Monsignor is quite a way down the ecclesiastical ladder.

Have someone fact check.

Jess Craven's avatar

Oh dear I’m so sorry. I’ll issue a correction in the next newsletter.

That States Win article was great - makes me feel so much better about deleting those incessant and fear-mongering texts…and motivated to look for state races to support with my small donations. Happy Friday!!!

I’m so glad you liked it!

I'm sorry. Whenever I hear the latest from Pope Leo XIV, I can't help but think of that line in the movie The Untouchables, when the Canadian Mounty is appalled at the tactics Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner) and Irish-American Officer James Malone (Sean Connery) use to capture Al Capone's "army" of illegals. As they are leaving the log cabin at the border, the Mounty voices his displeasure at what he saw, but Ness and Malone turn back to him and say words to the effect, "Well, you ain't from Chicago!"

Many of your readers don't appreciate you asking us to pray, so please find a secular request for support.

Jess Craven's avatar

Ah. Fair point. I will endeavor to find a different phrase.

Thanks for the updated info on the FISA bill. Appreciate it. Should we continue to call Jim Himes?
