Hi, all, and happy Wednesday!
Good news! Last night the Senate passed the Postal Service Reform Act—without any bad amendments! It now heads to the President’s desk for a signature!
This is a huge victory for the USPS and the American people—the bill gets rid of the pre-funding mandate which has been dragging the Postal Service into insolvency since 2006, (when—ahem—Republicans instituted it.) It also allows the USPS to expand their services—think hunting and fishing licenses; think postal banking!—and wipes out a bunch of its debt. It’s a huge deal, and it happened because of people like you!
I’m not kidding. We have called and written about this bill so many times, y’all. The fact that it passed this year— bills like it have been introduced for years and gained no traction—is due to our increased organization and determination. It’s due to your steady drumbeat of calls.
It’s also due to the fact that we elected more DEMOCRATS!
Let’s do more of that. There really are solutions, and one party is really invested in finding them.
Your work matters; your calls matter; your voice is your superpower.
Never forget it. 🌟

Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, I want the Senator to demand President Biden use the full powers of the executive branch to begin addressing the climate crisis. He needs to declare a climate emergency, which will enable him to quickly mobilize resources to transition to clean renewable energy. I strongly disagree with Congressmembers who want to drill more domestically. That will only worsen the climate crisis and set us further behind China and other countries racing to develop renewables. We need to transition to clean energy now. Thanks. [H/T]
[If Dem add:] One more thing: I’m VERY concerned about the Republican privatization of Medicare. Please do all you can to make sure that the Trump-era Medicare Direct Contracting Entities pilot program is abandoned and not just rebranded as ACO REACH by HHS. Thanks. [H/T and more info]

Call President Biden at 1 (202) 456-1111 or send this to him via his contact form. Please personalize!
I’m deeply worried abut the climate crisis; it’s clear that we need to do more, faster, to avoid the worst impacts from it. I want President Biden to declare a climate emergency so he can mobilize all of our nation’s resources to transition to clean renewable energy and create millions of good paying green jobs.
This is a five alarm fire. Please act like it.
Thanks.

I’m angry that oil companies are using the war in Ukraine as a pretext to raise gasoline prices and gouge customers. This, while they are reporting the largest quarterly profits in eight years and openly bragging about how they spend their profits on stock buybacks to shareholders.
To make matters worse, a report in Fortune Magazine shows they are not investing these profits in green energy to combat climate change as our planet burns.
We need reasonable price controls, and oil companies must pay a windfall profits tax.
A windfall tax would levy a tax on profits made by fossil fuel companies in response to the Ukraine invasion, and also tax profits made as inflation has risen. This can discourage oil companies from artificially inflating gas prices. And it's one of the few things Congress can do to deter this price gouging.
Senators Bernie Sanders and Ed Markey have both called for action in recent days, (in 2020 Sanders introduced legislation similar to a windfall profits tax.) As Americans suffer increasingly from prices at the gas pump, now is the time to hold oil companies accountable. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.

Yay, Jess! So happy about the passge of the Postal Service Reform Act!! And thanks for the script for Resistbot because I know Repubs will use the rising gas prices to attack Biden. And it's so unfair to blame him but that is what the media and society do immediately.
So grateful we have an experienced statesman in the White House instead of what we used to have!
