Hi, all and happy Thursday!
And happy trans day of visibility, too. As the mother of a nonbinary child this day holds special meaning for me. If you are trans, nonbinary, or genderqueer I’m sending you special love and acknowledgment today. It’s not an easy time to be LGBTQIA+ in our country. The actions we take here are meant to change that.
Over time, I trust and hope that they will.
I’ll say it again: Days of celebration are great, but true allyship means working every day to make meaningful change in our legislation and our legislators. It’s a bifurcated approach that must be continued until every transphobic, homophobic, anti-LGBTQ policy and policymaker is gone.
Otherwise our words are just…words.
So let’s go put our actions where our mouths are one more time.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, on this trans day of visibility I want to express huge support for S 393, the Equality Act. In a time when state legislatures are passing horrific anti-trans legislation that will result in monumental harm to our trans friends and family, a bill that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation could save countless lives. I want it passed now.
Also: I want the Senator to vote YES on Ketanji Brown Jackson for the Supreme Court and NO on Jennifer Rearden, a lower-court judicial nominee who will receive a vote next week. She’s a Big Oil apologist—no way. Thanks.
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I support HR 7101 — - the Prohibiting Anticompetitive Mergers Act of 2022, which would ban the biggest, most anticompetitive mergers and give the DOJ and FTC more tools to reject deals and break up monopolies.
Also, I want the Congressmember to vote yes on H.R.6833, the Affordable Insulin Now Act. Getting the price of Insulin down to $35 a month would be a game changer for millions of Americans. Please make it happen. Thanks.

Let’s call CBS about Mick Mulvaney. 1 (212) 975-3247 or write cbs.com/feedback
I said:
I understand that you’ve hired Mick Mulvaney to be a contributor on your news platforms. You describe him simply as “a former Office of Management and Budget director.” But he’s not that. He’s a person who worked for a President who has since tried to overthrow the US government. A person who—in order to help that same president win an election—put pressure on Ukraine’s president to announce he was launching an investigation into the actions of Joe Biden’s son and then, when he wouldn’t do that, okayed the withholding of almost $400 million Congress had appropriated for Ukraine’s protection against Russia. A person who, when asked about it, told Americans to “Get over it.” Well you know what? I haven’t. And I think it’s shameful that you hired him. Of course CBS can do what they want, but American consumers have choices, too. I’ll be choosing not to watch CBS while he’s your employee. Thanks. [H/T]

So I’m attending two phonebanks today. Yup. Double header.
At 1PM PDT I’ve signed up to make calls with Center for Common Ground into North Carolina to make sure voters of color have the info they need to take advantage of early voting for the primaries. Are you free to join me? Use this link to sign up.
At 3PM PDT I’ll be running my weekly phonebank into Arizona. Come! I will train you! We’re calling infrequent Dem voters and making sure they know about the elections in November. You’d be surprised how many don’t. Sign up here. I’d love to see you!

I’m writing to ask you to co-sponsor the Bush-Crow-Sanders Energy Security and Independence Act (S. 938).
This bill will take on the climate crisis, deny revenues to authoritarian petrostates fueling war, and create good-paying, union jobs by on-shoring clean energy manufacturing and production and investing in energy efficiency. It will protect communities from volatile, expensive energy prices from unsafe sources by using money set aside under the Defense Production Act.
To achieve energy security and independence, the ESIA will:
Invest $100 billion in reinvigorating the domestic clean energy industrial base using the Defense Production Act
Create a Domestic Renewable Energy Industrial Base Task Force to coordinate an all-of-government approach that engages environmental justice communities, manufacturers, scientists, engineers, planners, and labor unions to plan and implement a transition to 100 percent renewable energy
Provide $10 billion in loans and grants to bolster the domestic renewable energy system component manufacturing supply chain with strong corporate governance standards and benefits for taxpayers
Provide $30 billion to weatherize and insulate 6.4 million homes over the next 10 years to save working families nearly $2 billion each year on their utility bills
Invest $10 billion to procure and install millions of heat pumps, significantly reducing consumption of imported fossil fuels
Create good, union jobs by requiring high-road labor standards for all funded projects
Fulfill EJ40 commitments by investing at least 40 percent of funds in environmental justice communities
It’s a great and necessary bill. Please support it vocally and work to get it passed. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
Jess
