Hi, all, and happy Wednesday.
Hope this email finds you well, or as well as can be expected considering the barrage of often stress-inducing information coming at us all the time. It’s overwhelming; I’m reminded of how critical it is to take a break from it so my adrenaline levels can settle back down. Whether by meditation (critical), watching Cheer on Netflix (SO GOOD), or just putting my phone away while I have dinner with my family, the gift of being present for short periods of time truly does keep giving long after I’ve returned to the fracas.
Having said that, right now I’m in the fight and about to make the same calls I’m sending to you. Because sometimes you have to charge the batteries…
And sometimes you have to use them to help save the world. 🔋
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
I’m mad that large, profitable corporations like Amazon and Netflix are raking in record profits while paying little in federal income taxes. I want the Senate to pass legislation—already passed in the House—implementing a 15% Corporate Profits Minimum Tax. Enough is enough.
Also, I want the Senate to confirm all of President Biden’s nominees to the Federal Reserve Board now. I’m angry that Republicans are holding up the vote because they don’t like Sarah Bloom Raskin. They oppose her because she will hold Big Banks accountable for the climate damage they’re funding. I want the Senator to support her confirmation. Thanks.
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I’m very glad that the Sandy Hook families were able to get a huge settlement from Remington yesterday. But lawsuits are no replacement for Congress passing common sense gun laws. Is the Congressmember yet a co-sponsor of H.R.1808, the Assault Weapons Ban bill? What about HR 748 Ethan’s Law? I want action from Congress now. If s/he isn’t co-sponsoring both of those bills I him/her to now. Thanks.

I am deeply frustrated that Louis DeJoy is still running the Postal Service. I trusted that, when given the opportunity, you would nominate members to the Board of Governors who would replace him, but you have disappointed us. That’s why I’m writing to ask you to withdraw your nomination of Derek Kan to the Board. As a Republican who worked for the OMB in the Trump administration and a policy adviser for Senator McConnell, Kan seems highly unlikely to hold DeJoy accountable for undermining our beloved USPS.
If any of us had done so poorly in our jobs, with such clear conflicts of interest, and refused to listen to the President of the United States when he asked for such things as an electrified postal fleet, we would have been fired by now. De Joy’s continued presence reminds us of the corrosive cronyism we see on corporate boards; it’s intolerable to see that in our federal government.
I urge you to withdraw Derek Kan’s nomination and instead choose USPS Board members who will remove De Joy immediately. Thanks.

Please join the Environmental Voter Project on Thursday at 7pm ET / 4pm PT for a special briefing webinar on their latest voter file analysis: environmental "drop-off" voters in 8 battleground states — AZ, NV, TX, FL, GA, NC, PA, and NH and how to turn them out.
This 1hr webinar will detail demographic, geographic, and other data on "environment-first" voters who vote in presidential elections, but not in midterm elections. It will also discuss how EVP plans to reach them. There will also be a Q&A session.
If you love voter data, this is the briefing for you. Please RSVP in order to get the zoom log-in details.

Rose K, one of my readers, sent me this:
“I've been phonebanking for voting rights with Common Cause and it's been a pretty good experience! The enormous For the People Act, later the Freedom to Vote Act, was a very hard sell. But we're now focusing on state legislation, which is a lot easier to summarize on the phone. It's exciting when you patch someone through directly to their state senator's office - it really feels like making a difference! Maybe you can inspire some of your readers to sign up.”
I hope so! Do so here.

Republican obstruction of the appropriation process is a form of economic terrorism and blackmail designed to ram through their extreme right-wing agenda regardless of what voters want. History teaches us that giving in to terrorists and paying off blackmailers inevitably leads to more terrorism and more blackmail. Do not surrender. Do not give in to them.
No Republican “poison pills” in any Continuing Resolution (CR), such as the Hyde Amendment, defense-domestic spending parity limits, or any kind of prohibition against public health emergency measures such as vaccine mandates.
Do not allow Republicans to separate out and pass the three appropriation bills they love — Defense, Homeland Security, and Agriculture subsidies — without passing the other nine.
Reduce total defense spending and redirect those funds to defending us from the real and immediate climate emergency threats that we are facing and suffering from right now
Thanks very much for staying strong so we can pass the priority provisions we need to pass.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
