Mini Justice Department edition, plus some great news on the USPS fleet
Hi, all, and happy Tuesday!
I’m sure most of you watched the final January 6th hearing yesterday, and share in the collective outrage that the final report, while damning, has no legal weight. So I thought you might appreciate a script for calling the Jutice Department and asking them to DO SOMETHING about it.
This isn’t to say that a) I think they’re doing nothing, because I definitely don’t, or b) that I think our calls will be determinative of a different outcome—Garland is supposed to be, and is, impervious to pressure. BUT I do think a deluge of calls and letters can’t hurt. Public opinion matters, and *every* government official is aware of it, no matter how “impartial” they claim to be.
So, let’s all make this call to the Justice Department’s comment line (202-353-1555):
My name is _____ and I’m calling from [city, state]. I demand that the Justice Department indict and prosecute Donald Trump and his entire criminal network for committing crimes against this country. Nobody is above the law, including ex-presidents, even and especially if they're trying to run for office in order to avoid legal consequences. The January 6th committee gave you everything you need. Charge him now! Thanks.
Feel like signing a petition too? Climate Hawks Vote is circulating a good one here.
OK, all. This is enough for today. Except to say that we had GREAT news from the USPS today — they are going fully electric by 2026! This is HUGE, and happened in part because of your efforts—think about how many calls we made, and how many letters and emails we sent about this! ACTIVISM WORKS!
So don’t stop now.
More soon.
Jess
Great news indeed about the USPS shifting their fleet of polluting gas vehicles to EVs, and I knew from talking to my neighborhood mail carriers over the years how unsafe and uncomfortable their vehicles have been. Rolling metal ovens in the summer, then freezing cold boxes in the winter. Can't imagine how much worse it must be in other states with more extreme weather.
