Hey, all. Happy Tuesday.
Thanks for allowing me to take a week off. It was desperately needed. Like most of you, I’ve been in a state of grief, horror, and shock; I’m not, of course, fully out of it yet, but I’ve recovered sufficiently to get back to my laptop. Thanks to those of you who’ve checked in—consider this my official confirmation that I am alive and, if not well, then certainly functioning on most planes.
I’m not quite up to a full newsletter yet, although I will be soon. But there are a few important things to put here now, so put them I will.
First, Indivisible is holding a Zoom meeting tomorrow that seems important. It’s called Worth Fighting For: Indivisible’s Strategy for Fighting Trump 2.0.
The description reads:
Our movement began as a means to stop the Trump agenda. We succeeded and we will do it again.
Democracy is in grave peril but not lost. This election is catastrophic, but democracy does not get decided in one election. Had we won, democracy would not have been saved. After losing, democracy isn’t gone.
We will come together. We will fight back. We will forge a path forward.
Join Indivisible on Wednesday 11/13 at 8:30pm ET for the launch of our new guide and strategic plan for how we will meet this moment.
People’s Action is having a call tomorrow night, too. It unfortunately partially conflicts with Indivisible’s, but it’s an option if you prefer something a bit earlier. It’s at 8PM PT ET. The description reads:
Worried about the election results and curious what to do next?! People's Action is a network of organizations in 30 states that works year round to fight for a thriving future for all of us! Join us to digest the election results and plan our next steps!
Finally, there is still quite a lot of ballot curing happening in CA, NC and PA and more volunteers are needed. If we have any chance of holding the House it’ll be through these ballots. If this is something you’re up to you can sign up through Field Team Six’s portal here.
One more thing. I found this piece really helpful and, if not encouraging, then at least calming. We aren’t the first to face an authoritarian takeover and we won’t be the last. We can learn from others’ experiences, fight back in ways that work, and hopefully prevail. Check it out.
Sending so much love. This is new territory for all of us, but in some ways it’s not. We have done resistance before, witnessed outrages, and weathered much pain. Through it all we kept our moral compasses, honed the tools in our toolkits, and ultimately prevailed—if only temporarily. We can do it again.
Please practice self care, be around friends and family, and take it a day at a time.
We’ve got this.
Jess
Oh Jess. So good to hear from you. I’m glad you took a break. It’s great modeling. I found you during the pandemic and started working! Every day I set aside an hour to do all your to dos. Eventually my own life (dying parents and surgeries) slowed me down but I never stopped doing something. Then I added Robert Hubbell and Simon Rosenberg’s to dos and kept going. Then we got walloped and I’m so crushed. I’ll be back. Much love! Kate
Welcome back and thanks for all you do. I'm so glad you took a break. I'm so sorry that we are going to go through the things we are going to go through, but happy we have this community.
