Hi, all, and happy Thursday.
These hearings are wild, aren’t they? SO GOOD. Don’t forget you can use the DemCast Jan 6 Justice toolkit to post about them as they happen, or right after! It’s 🔥.
I’m going to keep listening, so no pep talk this morning. You don’t need a pep talk anyway. You’ve GOT this!
Let’s do some wood chopping!
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
I’m calling to ask the Senator to support S 3802, the Big Oil Windfall Profits Tax Act. The price gauging by oil and gas companies has gone on long enough. They’re exploiting the war in Ukraine to line their own pockets and Americans are fed up with it. Will the Senator support this bill?

Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
I’m calling to ask the Congressmember to support HR 7061, the Big Oil Windfall Profits Tax Act. The price gauging by oil and gas companies has gone on long enough. They’re exploiting the war in Ukraine to line their own pockets and Americans are fed up with it. Will the Congressmember support this bill?
Extra Credit ✅
Even if you don’t live in Los Angeles I’m sure you’ve heard about our horrid City Council members caught spewing racist (and anti-LGBTQ, and anti-Indigenous, and antisemitic, and anti-Armenian, and corrupt) venom with the (now ex-)President of the LA Fed. Fortunately two of the four involved have resigned, and one of them—my Councilmember, Gil Cedillo, is about to lose his job anyway because we primaried him—but one of them, Kevin DeLeon, is still hanging on.
Please email DeLeon’s chief of staff Jennifer Barraza at jennifer.barraza@lacity.org with the subject “RESIGN” and the body “The councilmember must resign.” Feel free to add more (I sure did.) But even if you don’t—please do this. Thanks!

I am a constituent, and I am writing to ask that you cosponsor H.R. 241/S. 335, the bipartisan Tropical Forest and Coral Reef Conservation Reauthorization Act (TFCRCA), introduced in the Senate by Sens. Rob Portman (R-OH) and Chris Coons (D-DE) and in the House by Reps. Steve Chabot (R-OH) and Brad Sherman (D-CA).
The TFCRCA allows developing countries that meet certain criteria to be relieved of debt owed to the United States in exchange for protecting and preserving tropical forests and coral reefs. This legislation is an important tool for protecting fragile ecosystems that promote global biodiversity, fight climate change, and protect human, animal, and environmental health. Please co-sponsor the TFCRCA today. Thanks!
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
Jess
I am counting on Joe Biden to rise above the shopworn mantras of "Realpolitik". and cut off bin Salman at the knees. No more military aid, no more Favoured Nation status.
Just now catching up on Thursday's wood-chopping and water-carrying after a bit of time outside of the US. It was a pleasure calling my senators and congressperson about S3802 and HR 7061, and exchanging text messages with resistbot.
I also appreciated the invitation to the comedy night for Movement Voter PAC, noting in particular the comment that this is Jess Craven's "favorite org." That is superlative praise in my book!
In addition to the links posted in today's CWCW, I found the following BlueTent review of the Movement Voter Project (and PAC) to be very encouraging. https://bluetent.us/organization/movement-voter-project/
