Hi, everyone! Happy Tuesday!
Sorry this is late. I’m off to a slow start today.
A friendly reminder: if you are in VA or know anyone there, today is the last day to register to vote in the upcoming elections. And—for all of us—Saturday is the last day to request Vote Forward letters. They still have tens of thousands of unclaimed addresses. 😬 If you are leery of signing up for something new but want to help just email me—I will adopt 5 voters for you and then email you the letters to write and send. I just really don’t want to leave any voters untouched when we know how well these letters work!
OK. Enough said, and time’s a-wasting.
Sending love and hugs. We’ll get through this.
We ARE getting through it. Because of YOU.
Call Your Senators (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is ______.
First, we are already living the catastrophic consequences of climate change. [Add an example of how it’s impacting your state]. It will only get worse if we don't take bold action immediately. I want the Senator to do everything in his/her power to keep climate change provisions in the Build Back Better Act.
Second, I want the Senator to work to pass the Equality Act. Decades of history show that federal civil rights protections are effective in decreasing discrimination because they provide strong remedies targeted to specific vulnerable groups. By explicitly including sexual orientation and gender identity, LGBTQ+ people will finally be afforded the exact same protections as other covered characteristics at the federal level. Thank you. [H/T]
Call Your House Rep (find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling from [zip]. My name is _______.
[to Democrats] First, there is nothing in the Build Back Better plan we don’t need desperately. As Democrats negotiate, I ask that they not remove any provisions. If they must cut the cost, then do it by sunsetting provisions after 5 years. That way we will have the option of extending them once the public has realized how critical they are. We need to address the climate emergency. We need a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and TPS holders. We need a care economy. We need more affordable healthcare. It all needs to stay in.
[to all:] The witnesses who are defying the January 6th Committee’s subpoenas must be arrested. If we let them get away with not showing up we are ceding our democracy. I can’t state this strongly enough. Please ask the Congressmember to put pressure on the chairs of that committee to respond forcefully and quickly to this lawless behavior. It can’t stand. Thanks.

Per Stop the Money Pipeline’s request, let’s call Citibank CEO Jane Fraser at (212) 793-6194 about divesting in fossil fuels. Please mention if you are a customer!!
Hi, my name is _____ and I’m calling from ____. I am calling because I am greatly concerned about the fact that Citibank is continuing to provide financing for the corporations most responsible for causing climate change: the fossil fuel industry and corporations engaged in widespread tropical deforestation.
The Glasgow Climate Talks are the most important international climate talks since Paris, and I ask that Citibank publicly commits to phasing out all funding of the fossil fuel industry before the end talks. Can you please pass the message along to Ms. Fraser?
Resistbot Text (new to Resistbot? Go here!)
[to President Biden—text SIGN PEBCPW to 50409] [H/T]
I’m writing to ask you to use your executive authority to stop new fossil fuel projects and declare a climate emergency in order to meet your climate commitments and fulfill your environmental justice promises.
As you look towards the upcoming United Nations climate talks, you must act on your commitments in order to ensure a just and sustainable future. We have everything to lose and no time to wait. Your administration promised to address the climate emergency and a history of environmental injustice, but so far, continues to allow the fossil fuel industry to poison our communities and destabilize our climate.
You have the authority as the President to stop dangerous fossil fuel projects like the Line 3 pipeline and expanding gas export terminals to new overseas markets with a stroke of a pen, but this inaction is continuing widespread environmental injustice and the violation of Indigenous rights.
Right now in front of the White House, Indigenous and frontline leaders are rising together with allies across the country to send a clear message on the action you must urgently take. Please, stand with frontline communities, stand with future generations, stop approving fossil fuel projects, declare a climate emergency now. Thanks.
OK, you did it again! You helped save democracy! You’re amazing.
Talk tomorrow.
Jess
Thank you. ❤️🤍💙
